Match Report Verwood Town vs Brockenhurst 20-Oct-19
BOURNEMOUTH SENIOR CUP QUARTER FINAL
WEDNESDAY 30TH OCTOBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 1 BROCKENHURST 2
What a difference a week makes. Last week a disastrous performance against Pewsey Vale and this week a sterling team effort that should have been rewarded with a win.
We had an appetite for the ball, and led by inspirational skipper Russ Dyer fought for possession. It paid off with only a couple of minutes on the clock when Danvers won the ball outside our box and linking with Davies punctured Brocks right hand defensive set up. Davies whipped a peach of a cross on to the far post and Vint was just beaten to the ball by a very in form keeper.
A brisk counter and Haigh’s judgment was impeccable as he cut out a low cross across the six yard box.
A hard fought mid field was soldiered by Maddocks and Hall. Hall had a dipping shot inching over the bar and Maddocks followed suit firing just past the upright.
Driscoll’s through ball for Vint almost caught out Brock’s defence but again the keeper sprung to Brock’s rescue stopping them from going behind.
Counters were taken care of with Gajic and Kelly dominating their opposite numbers. Danvers and Dyer made up a solid looking back four.
A flurry of activity in our box finished with Haigh saving on the near post and sparking a counter.
A Danvers and Davies double act resulted in the Brock keeper making a great save tipping the ball away from danger.
Half Time 0-0
Vint went close straight from the kick off but after 7 minutes of the half gone we slackened to allow a low cross penetrate the area. A runner slammed the ball into the bottom corner 0-1.
A body blow after playing so well but admirably we hit back immediately with a Driscoll effort blocked in the area and then a smith pile driver skipping past the post.
We added pressure prompted from the back four. Gajic and Kelly worked the ball out from our third and Maddocks took up the running. A headed clearance fell for Hall but a scything tackle stopped the flow. A similar tackle shortly after produced a free kick. Up stepped Maddocks. A great pin point ball was tracked by Smith and a downward header this time beat the keeper. 1-1
We were enjoying a slightly higher percentage of possession but couldn’t stop Brock gaining the lead again. A cross stemming from their left drifted on to the spot and a header dirtied Haigh’s finger tips but finished up in the net.
We went for broke but Brock had a bit more luck in the box preventing us drawing level. The whistle went with Bock making the next round.
Result 1-2.
