VERWOOD TOWN 1 ALRESFORD TOWN 1 (AFTER EXTRA-TIME)
Alresford’s opening salvo put the ball over the bar in the first couple of minutes and pressure from the flanks gave our back four a very busy start. A corner was cleared by O’Hare. The ball fell to Alresford just outside the box. A shot was well taken by the safe hands of Lynch. We hit back with a move through the middle sparked by Dyer. On to Glatzel , on to Nicolson. The cross was picked up by Eaton but his shot on target was well taken by the keeper.
Evans picked the pocket of the wide man and delivered a chip over the back for Nicolson. A low cross resulted in a corner. Dyer’s inswinger was hammered just over the bar by O’Hare.
Eaton almost broke the defensive barrier but was felled just outside the box, Up stepped Dyer to drop a perfect cross for Davis. The header went over the bar. Had we been playing Rugby we would have been well in front.
Alresford broke through and grabbed a corner from a deflection. A scramble in the box and the ball finished in the back of the net. Luckily the Ref was on the spot to see the push and disallowed the claim.
The game was end to end. Glatzel just missed toe ending an Eaton cross and then Sam Joy cleared off our line as Alresford countered.
Carkeet’s pace matched his opponents as Alresford attempted a break on their right. Winning a strong tackle Carkeet floated a ball over midfield finding Davies wide left. A good run and cross was followed in by Glatzel but again the ball cleared the cross bar.

The game continued with both sides committed to attack. Alresford hit our box with a high ball and Joy rose above everyone to head clear finding Evans. Evans shook off attention from his opponent and cut the ball inside for Davis. A good ball wide found Davies but closer attention from Alresford’s defenders stopped Davies outside the box.
We had a spell of possession. Davis headed over the bar and Nicolson fired over the top.
Lynch made a great save from a counter attack and O’Hare had to do the splits to cut out a runner on the edge of the area.
The game see sawed and in the closing minutes of the half a penalty appeal from Alresford was ignored.

The first few minutes of Extra time produced a couple of good chances for us with Eaton hitting the ball over the bar and then a Dyer free kick going in the same direction.
2 min in, Davies slipped his marker and slotted the ball past the keeper to put us in front 0-1.
End to end football continued and in the last minutes of extra time a long shot from Alresford was deflected past Lynch to secure a replay at Arlebury Park next Tuesday. 1-1.
