Match Report Verwood Town vs Sway 11-Sep-18
BOURNEMOUTH SENIOR CUP - ROUND 2
TUESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2018
VERWOOD TOWN 2 SWAY 2 - (SWAY WIN 4-2 ON PENALTIES)
This was a repeat fixture of last season. It wasn’t however a repeat result.
Sway had a more direct approach than us but it was effective. Flanks were used more for the long ball, keeping Carkeet and Mills occupied. Yet another central pairing of Joy and O’Hare was solid producing an intriguing tussle between the sides.
Mills blocked an attack on our left and found Dyer. A good ball wide gave Davies a run but his cross was cleared by Sway’s defence.
Gajic caused consternation in the Sway ranks with some good footwork but Sway’s keeper was equal to anything that got through..
Nicolson and Richardson forced an opening on the right resulting in a corner. An inswinger should have been put away but bodies on the line cleared any danger.
Gajic tried a long shot that went over the bar and Eaton then went close after a good run on goal.
Typical of this type of game we were punished by a moments laxity letting in a runner to deliver a cross shot that hit the inside of the post and skidding into the net giving Sway the lead. 0-1
Half Time 0-1.
We found our feet right from the re-start. Davies crossed for Gajic to slam a shot wide and then Nicolson fired over the bar from close in. We were well on top but couldn’t score.
Eaton pulled up short with an injury and Ryan Kelly’s first game of the season came to fruition.
We won a free kick. Dyer dropped the ball on heads and Davies finally put the ball past the keeper. 1-1.
We were well on top. Carkeet’s impact down the right continued with a good run and grabbed a corner. Gajic picked up Dyer’s delivery and a low shot was cleared off the line. Sway’s defence was rugged and determined.
Another corner half way through the half was headed over by Sam Joy as we pinned Sway in and around their area,
Sway’s counter was dealt with by O’Hare but one that did get away was well taken by Daniels.
Gilham made his bow replacing Richardson and was soon in the thick of things releasing Nicolson with a fine through ball. Nicolson’s shot on the turn whistled wide. It was a game of near misses.
Gajic put us in front with a low volley making it 2-1 but with 5 minutes left a hopeful right footer from 30 yards sailed into our net, 2-2.
It went to penalties … again we struggled to score and
lost 2-4.. We can only wish Sway similar good fortune in their next round and hope they pick up the trophy.
Result 2-2 (Lost 2-4 on penalties)
