Match Report Verwood Town vs Laverstock and Ford 26-Sep-17
SYDENHAMS (WESSEX) LEAGUE CUP - ROUND 2
TUESDAY 26th SEPTEMBER 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 1 LAVERSTOCK & FORD 0
A couple of late withdrawals due to illness meant a shuffle of the pack before we kicked off. We still had a good mix though to face high flyers Laverstock & Ford.
Hockey's pace took him clear of defenders and a cut back found Davis. Davis hammered a low angled shot that was blocked on the line and cleared. It was a good start and for change we continued with a good work rate and movement.
Browning and Ballard took care of central high balls with O'Hare 'carrying'. It was a solid performance from the defence.
Laverstock did break through occasionally but Dennis coped well with anything that crept through.
Hockey's presence was cruelly interrupted with a hamstring tear and had to come off. Bergin was ready and made his entry on one for one.
Anderton was causing concern for Laverstock & Ford defence with a strong presence but it was Davis capitalizing on gaps.
Matt Vining did the job though with 18 minutes gone delivering a rocket of a left foot drive that whipped up the net to put us ahead. 1-0.
Half time 1-0.
Frost received a caution from the ref for an extra strong tackle and O'Hare dealt admirably with the free kick.
The Dyer / Frost combination in the middle was working well and both went close with shots as the half progressed.
Laverstock & Ford stepped up their effort and some good football took them into the area a couple of times but we defended well and Dennis pulled off a couple of excellent save to keep us in front.
Laverstock & Ford qualities were on display in efforts to break us down but with Vining and Davis raiding from the flanks on counters a degree of caution stopped them pushing up too far.
Bergin went close and Anderton almost scored from a header with 5 minutes left.
Brad Gale's link up play throughout the game was a big contribution to the win.
Result 1-0
