Match Report Verwood Town vs Totton and Eling 23-Sep-17
SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 1 TOTTON & ELING 3
It took us a few minutes to wake up during which Dennis had had to make a good save at the foot of the post.
Totton & Eling wasted no time in pushing on and for a while our defence was tasked with stemming runs on both flanks.
We gradually worked our way into the game and contrary to last week’s dismal performance we contested the middle of the park winning most of the ball. Frost was easing his way into his first game for the Club and with Dyer’s controlling factor we looked solid in mid field.
Davis gave an opportunity for Vining to notch a goal but the ball skidded wide of the foot of the post.
We had a lot of possession but yet again couldn’t put the ball in the net.
10 minutes left of the half and typical of our current concentration levels went blank leaving Totton & Eling free to float a cross into the box and a free header made it 0-1.
Disaster came in the form of a right flank cross to our far post and an unmarked player let fly with a left foot volley leaving Dennis stranded. 0-2.
Half Time 0-2
We continued where we left off. On the attack and grabbing a couple of corners but leaving gaps to be exploited. A melee in the box from our second corner finished with a looped ball being headed just over the bar by O’Hare.
A Fisk cross shot was beaten out by the keeper and a Dyer volley was blocked on the penalty spot and cleared. Smith was enjoying a bit of space and linking with Davis split Totton & Eling’s defence at the back to send Vining free. A topped shot flipped past the post.
Totton & Eling hit back with some good football in the middle of the park but Browning and Frost proved equal to the task of snuffing central breaks.
60 minutes Williams came on or Browning as we shuffled the formation.
A fee kick 0n 63 minutes by Dyer finally found the back of the net after Frost climbed above defenders to power a header into the roof of the net. 1-2.
68 minutes Fletcher made an appearance in place of Fisk. 75 minutes Gilham came off for Meyer.
Meyer’s tenure was short lived and after only 5 minutes was red carded for exchanging pleasantries with the ref.
Despite having only ten men we should have scored a second a minute later but yet again we had no one with the capability of finishing off chances in front of the sticks.
Pushing too far up cost us a third on 88 minutes.
Result 1-3
