Match Report Verwood Town vs Romsey Town 26-Aug-17
SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 26th AUGUST 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 0 ROMSEY TOWN 2
For us, this game turned out to be a disaster in terms of football quality and a ‘want to win’. Romsey had all the ingredients we hadn’t and walked off after 90 minutes with 3 points.
Even the changes forced on Adie Arnold couldn’t be blamed for such an inept display. Will Dennis and Callum O’Hare came away bruised but with some degree of pride for their input. Outside of these two was a lack of desire and willingness to work.
Romsey had a few anxiety moments as Hockey and Swann found themselves in front of the sticks but couldn’t put the ball in the net.
Romsey declared a no entry zone in midfield so we complied with no challenge.
We had a couple of opportunities but didn’t have anyone on the park to benefit the score line.
Romsey had a free kick in the 36th minute and in keeping with our display allowed an unchallenged header hit the back of the net to give Romsey the lead. 0-1.
Half Time 0-1
The second half started where the first had left off. Romsey given pace and time on the ball with little or no challenge.
57 minutes gone and a cross from their right flank drifted into the box and diverted past Dennis for Romsey’s second. 0-2.
Sam Hockey gave way for Max Fletcher and Ryan Kelly went one for one with Lewis Peckham. Joe Meyer replaced Jack Swann but the rot was already embedded and the game drifted to the final whistle without any more goals.
The lack of effort and energy was alarming. Efforts to get off to a flying start might well have been binned.
Our players need to have a long hard look at themselves and decide if they are good enough to warrant selection.
Result 0-2
