Match Report Verwood Town vs Hamworthy United
WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 11TH MARCH 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 1 HAMWORTHY UNITED 3
5 minutes old and a Ryan Kelly volley from just inside the area was diverted past the post. The corner was half cleared and fell for Gajic, his shot on target was superbly saved by the keeper.
It was a good opening and we continued pressure. The result was 6 corners in 16 minutes. BUT. In between the corners Hamworthy skipped through the middle to put them ahead in the 10th minute. No palaver just clinical finishing.
Dyer was our engine room. Hard work and good vision should have been converted into goals but our lethargy in front of the sticks persists.
Hamworthy’s steady game paid off. No frills just purpose. We had flair but it was inconsistent. Fisk hammered a shot over the bar and Ryan Kelly had a great cross shot well saved.
Donachy and Warren became busier as Hamworthy’s pressure forced us to defend deeper. Elsom and Ben Kelly had a lot to do in curtailing the flanks but did well until a chink in the armor was exploited and on 24 minutes a quick attack finished with a goal scored close in. 0-2.
Gajic went close at the end of the half but it typified our lack lustre performance in front of the sticks by not finishing up in the back of the net.
Half Time 0-2.
Hamworthy’s desire to grab the points was much more evident than ours. We forgot second balls, and tackles became infrequent. We had to suffer more of our visitor’s dominance on the ball.
On 55 minutes we had a double substitution to see if we could liven up performance, so Bergin came off for Fletcher and Kimber made way for Smith.
4 minutes later we opened up as if Moses had parted the way. A simple run went unchecked and a good finish made it 0-3.
Smith’s bite in the middle helped to bolster a flagging display and on 77 minutes it was Smith rising to a Dyer corner putting us back in the frame with a well placed headed goal. 1-3.
Fletcher created a great chance for us to grab a second as we picked up pace but Ryan Kelly’s shot went wide of the upright.
Although we pushed to close the gap Hamworthy played out the rest of the game without too much threat on their goal. They went home with three points.
Result 1-3.
