It was a good first half with both teams committed to attack. A direct game promoted by Lymington almost paid off straight away with a long ball down the left landing a couple of yards from the bye line. Elsom’s pace matched the need and an excellent tackle stopped the cross.

Lymington’s pressure was unrelenting. Donachy and Kelly got underneath a couple of high central balls and one that got away was well covered by Bennet.

Another forced change to our formation saw Warren partnering Donachy. It was Warren taking down a high through ball and working with Dyer set up a quick counter. Fisk went clear of his marker and a low cross sped through the box and out into touch without anyone getting a boot to it.

Fletcher and Bergin were getting into the game more and a mazy Bergin run finished with Bergin going free but indecision 12 yards out lost the opportunity to try a shot.

Lymington upped their energy levels and pushed us back. Bennet saved at feet and then tipped a shot over the bar as Lymington peppered the area.

Kimber and Dyer worked space and Dyer’s pass wide right again freed up Fisk. A high cross to the far post was well taken by the keeper.

White and Fletcher were well policed by Lymington’s backs and space to run became a premium.

Our football flow was spasmodic. Lymington’s had purpose by comparison. 45 minutes popped up with Lymington breaking through forcing Bennet to make an excellent save at the foot of the post and sending us in at half time 0-0.

Our malady continues. We just can’t come out of the dressing room focused.

33 seconds had elapsed when a line ball was tracked by Kelly. A bundle near the flag resulted in a corner. The inswinger hit a couple of people in the box and was tapped in. 0-1.

This time we had a few dropped heads. Warren and Kelly led the way back.

Lymington continued pressure down the flanks. Elsom cut out one raid and made ground through the middle. A wide ball to White opened up a gap and a deep cross was put over the bar by an inrushing Bergin.

White was injured in a collision and had to come off. Jamie Webber went one for one, and was immediately in the game following up on Kimber’s through ball. An excellent low cross was blocked and cleared.

Dyer found Fisk with a raking pass. Fisk cut in and hit a volley deserving a goal but agonized as the ball hit the bar and bounced out.

Lynmington hit back. Good football took them to the edge of the box. Donachy was across quickly to block the shot. Warren collected the bounce and whipped the ball wide for Webber to organize a counter. A good cross had Fletcher written on it but a defensive blockade prevented progress.

69 minutes gone and a corner dropped into the six yard box. Heads went up and a glancing header was deflected by Donachy past Bennet. Cruel luck. 0-2.

We went close with a Fletcher shot and another from Fisk but couldn’t find the finishing touch.

81 minutes Fletcher made way for Anderton.

We tried to cut the deficit and on 87 minutes forced a corner. Donachy blasted a shot from the edge of the box but hit defenders. Fisk followed in but put his cross shot wide of the post.
