Match Report Sholing vs Verwood Town 11-Feb-16

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 11TH FEBRUARY 2017
SHOLING 3 VERWOOD TOWN 1

Evans Donachy Warren Snow Dare and Gilbert all missed this one so in came Purton, Webber Gajic Haskell & Boer.

A different formation had to be implemented so it took a short while for the team to settle down.

Sholing instantly capitalized forcing a corner. Luckily the connecting boot put it high and wide. Vaughan’s dead ball kick was picked up by Sholing’s mid field and a quick move down the right finished with a low cross into the box. Vaughan made a good save at the foot of the post from the resultant shot.

Sholing had the majority of play. Elsom Kelly and Smith did well to curb a wave of attacks and Elsom’s timely tackle in the box with 9 minutes gone was crucial.

We wilted on 12 minutes and got caught pushing too far up. A well taken goal put Sholing ahead 0-1.

It perked us up. Dyer and Gajic worked hard in the middle and sparked a couple of good moves through Haskell and Fisk. White looked sharp on the right and linking with Fletcher split Sholing’s defence. A cross from the bye line was well taken by the keeper.

Half way through the half Kelly and Bergin opened up their left hand flank and a through ball to Haskell was caught on the volley. The keeper did well to keep Haskell off the score sheet.

31 minutes and good football from Elsom gave another opportunity for Haskell. Haskell moved the ball wide to Fisk and Fisk rounded the keeper to slot the ball into the net from a narrow angle. 1-1.

Dyer and Fletcher’s work ethic gave another chance but Bergin put the ball wide of the upright.

Half Time 1-1

Smith won a fierce tackle at the back and set up Bergin for a run down the left. Bergin whipped a low cross into the box. Fletcher followed in but saw his shot deflected for a corner. Dyer’s inswinger was judged to the ‘nth degree by Haskell. A downward header was flicked off the line by the keeper, Fisk slammed in the re bound but defenders on the line did their job and the ball was finally hoofed into touch.

It was a good spell for us, but we couldn’t convert chances.

We buckled slightly giving a way a couple of corners. 68 minutes gone and the second corner was a training ground set piece resulting in a goal as the ball was headed in at the corner of bar and post. 1-2.

White’s excellent contribution to a move down the right shortly after Sholing had gone ahead gave Gajic freedom for a shot but the ball hit the side netting.

Back came Sholing and a break was blocked by Kelly but giving away a corner. A mirror image of the second goal put Sholing further ahead 1-3.

75 minutes and Jamie Webber came off the bench to give Frankie White’s legs a rest.

The game continued to see saw.

Bergin had a couple of pops at goal and a Haskell rasper grazed the bar. At our end Vaughan did well to palm away a 20 yarder heading for the top corner and Smith Kelly and Elsom formed a formidable wall as the game slipped into its final stages.

Webber and Fletcher broke through on 82 minutes but Fletcher’s ball wide for Fisk to run on to was intercepted by Sholings backs and another half chance was lost.

The game finished with Sholing edging play again but the score remained unaltered on the whistle.

Result 1-3.
