Blandford started brightly and the best of the exchanges in the opening 5 minutes before Verwood finally got a foothold in the game. Verwood began to enjoy most of the possession after the opening 5 and took the lead on 10 minutes as SHerbert converted a brilliant cross from Shevvy.
Blandford’s counter attacking play threatened on many occasions and they finally found a way through to equalise on 34 minutes.
Verwood continued to enjoy most of the possession, however the eager linesman called offside on nearly all of Verwood’s attacks and even flagged offside when the Blandford defence were in possession.
Blandford hit Verwood on the counter once more. Kerry chased back to cover and did a fantastic job at keeping the Blandford attack out, unfortunately the rest of the Verwood team had switched off and allowed three Blandford players to run past them to outnumber Kerry and take a very easy lead.
Sharon had taken a bad knock to her foot and was replaced by Steff with 15 minutes remaining of the first half.
2-1 down at half time and despite Verwood enjoying most of the possession, Blandford’s slick attacking play earned them the lead.
Half-Time 2-1
Half time and Leigh was replaced by Zoe and Sharon returned to the field in place of Steff.
Second half started brightly as SHerbert drew Verwood level as the linesman had kept his flag down, converting yet another ball from Shevvy on the left.
The football was very fluid and both teams played very well throughout the second half however frustration set in with a number of the Verwood players with most of the line calls, which nearly resulted in cards, but the girls held it together very well.
Blandford took the lead again through another counter attack on 69 minutes.
Liegh replied on 83 minutes with a perfectly good goal, taking the ball round the centre back and firing past the last defender and keeper from the left of the 6 yard box, but the eager linesman had his flag up and it was disappointingly disallowed.
A disappointing 3-2 loss. Blandford were a terrific team on the day and both teams played some exciting football, unfortunately the game won’t be remembered for the football. Both teams
acquitted themselves well and Verwood certainly deserved something from the game. It was just one of those days.
Congrats to Blandford on their result and we wish Darren and his team the best until we meet again at Potterne park and hopefully for some friendlies during the winter break.
Well done to the girls for not letting their frustrations boil over and keeping focussed on the game. Chins up now and focus on the next game.
As the league won’t recognise Liegh’s goal, the girls voted to not cheat her out of it in her end of season’s stats and an assist to Sophie, which is very sporting of them. Big prize to the player with the best stats at the end of the season!
Full-Time 3-2 to BlandfordPlayer of the match:Kerry. Remained switched on throughout the match, ran hard and battled for everything. Very strong performance and a reliable defender.
