Match Report Dorchester Town Ladies vs Verwood Town Ladies
22-NOV-15
DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SUNDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2015
DORCHESTER TOWN LADIES 16 VERWOOD TOWN LADIES 1
Last minute unavailabilities and injuries resulted in some desperate changes to the starting line up and the team were very, very short in defensive players, Steph had to be pulled back to defence and Sarah was required cover defensive duties in midfield. Three players carrying injuries before the game started, it was going to be a difficult day. within the first minute, Sharon tried to cut out a cross and turned the ball into her own net, which set the scene for the rest of the day. With half the team playing out of position and injuries being picked up, at one point the team had to play with just one recognised defensive player in Carla.
With Strikers being used in defence, the organisation and movement was not present and Verwood were punished for it time and time again. The girls tried really hard to cover unfamiliar positions and full credit to them for their efforts.
The defensive line, which only ever had a couple of defenders in it was also carrying a lot of injuries, making the defence very immobile and therefore was not able to move up too far, leaving a huge gap between them and the midfield allowing Dorchester to flood the space between them and outnumber the defenders, shooting at will. Concellation goal scored by Sarah late on.
Not the same Verwood team we have seen of late for obvious reasons and we are keen to see the girls back to their best (and injury free) soon. We hope to sign more defenders soon and welcome Claire, Jacqui and Kirsty back from injury.
