Match Report Verwood Town Ladies vs Dorchester Town Ladies 08-NOV-15

DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SUNDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2015
VERWOOD TOWN LADIES 1 DORCHESTER TOWN LADIES 5

The first 15 minutes saw Verwood dominate possession, three shots on target and a couple of near misses. Dorchester broke forward on 18 minutes and with their first shot on goal scored. The rest of the half was a very even affair, but most of the chances fell to Verwood who failed to convert.

Dorchester doubled their lead just before the half time whistle after an unlucky deflection. Carla replaced Sally after 15 minutes and Holly replaced Lisa in Goal for the final 5 minutes of the half.

Half-Time 0-2

The second half began as the first half started with Verwood controlling the game, but Dorchester added a third to their tally on their first attempt in the second half. Dorchester showed what a strong team they were, playing some superb, football, but Verwood matched them in every way.

The girls passing was sublime at times and had a well organised and drilled Dorchester team on the back foot.

Finally Sarah played a perfectly weighted through ball for Jo who ran onto round the keeper and slot home for Verwood.

3-1 with 20 minutes to go and the girls could sense a come-back and took control of the game, but again were unable to find the back of the net. Full credit to the Dorchester defence and goalkeeper who kept well organised and pulled off many good saves and blocks. With 5 minutes to go Dorchester broke again and looped a shot over Lisa's head to make it 4-1.

The girls were playing brilliantly up until that point, but their heads dropped and let a weak 5th goal in before the final whistle.

5-1 certainly flattered Dorchester as it was a very even game everywhere else on the pitch. Dorchester played a very cautious game, hitting Verwood on the counter attack and their finishing was effective. Verwood dominated for large periods but struggled to finish and were punished on the counter.

Full-Time 1-5

Only a few games into the first season together, but all the signs are there for this team to go on and be a real force to be reckoned with in the league.

Well played girls, the goals will come eventually!

Player of the Match: Lowri, who covered every blade of grass, defending solidly and attacked with purpose.
