Match Report Verwood Town vs Hamworthy United
9-Sep-15
WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
WEDNESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2015
VERWOOD TOWN 3 HAMWORTHY UNITED 3
Having offered little in attack Verwood made the breakthrough on
21 minutes when a through ball from Wood seemed to be a little
over hit for Rutten but he beat a hesitant keeper to it and when
the ball bounced free Rutten was able to walk the ball into the
empty net. Nobody could argue we had taken the lead against the
run of play 1-0
Three minutes later a seemingly harmless ball in to the visitors
box seemed to worry the keeper who subsequently spilled it 15
yards out to a grateful and waiting Rutten to complete the task
of slotting the ball into an empty net for the second time.
Rutten was delighted, the keeper devastated, Hamworthy rocking.
2-0
We were starting to play with more confidence and looking better
by the minute. On the half-hour mark Evans' ball in was
headed back by Gajic and Rutten sensing a first half hat-trick
fired wide from 12 yards. He appeared unnerved by suddenly having
a goalkeeper in front of him. Still searching for that hat trick
the hard working Rutten dribbled the ball past two defenders into
the box but shot into the side netting. We couldn't afford to
let Hamworthy back in to it, but we did. On 35 minutes former
Verwood striker Satterley fired a superb strike from the corner
of the penalty area giving Lynch no chance 2-1.
Looking to steady the ship before half time we couldn't
manage it. 41 minutes gone and a cross from Hamworthy's right
was hit first time on the half volley by Kemble and suddenly the
visitors were level. On the balance of play in the first half it
was probably what they deserved but a bit of a blow for Verwood
to give away a two goal lead.
Half-Time 2-2
We came out for the second half looking a much better team.
Murray had made way for Fisk on 50 minutes due to a slight
hamstring pull. For much of the half it was end to end stuff with
Verwood perhaps having the best of the chances. A free kick to
the far post on 55 minutes saw Wood hit a smart volley on the
turn which was only just wide. Shortly after a mazy run by Gajic
saw him tripped when about to shoot from 22 yards. The resulting
free kick was driven into the defensive wall. Fisk was seeing a
lot of the ball as we pushed for the lead again. His cross field
ball to Atkinson was wasted as Atkinson fired wide, then
Fisk's pace took him through and in a one-on-one with the
keeper attempted to chip him only to land it straight into his
hands, the goalie making some amends for his earlier errors.
Hamworthy were always a danger though and with just 7 minutes
left on the clock Kemble forced his was in to our area and his
goal bound shot took a wicked deflection off of Kelly and beat
the wrong-footed Lynch at the near post 2-3
The good thing is we could have been left deflated by such a
cruel blow but we weren't. Dyer had come on as sub for
Atkinson and with three minutes remaining the ever probing Gajic
set him free down the right flank. Getting the ball under control
Dyer looked up and picked out Wood at the far post. Wood had no
hesitation and fired a first time volley just inside the post
giving the keeper no chance on this occasion.
Full-Time 3-3
