Match Report Verwood Town vs Moneyfields 5-Oct-13

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2013
VERWOOD TOWN 0 MONEYFIELDS 3

For a couple of minutes at the start of the game we didn't touch the ball. Andy Dartson wondered if the ref might take pity and let us use a second ball to get accustomed to it.

Luckily Moneyfield didn't convert their dominance into goal threats so Geof Sims continued dozing against the post.

Lovell caused a scare in the Moneyfields ranks by intercepting a through ball and went 30 yards before unleashing a good shot testing the keeper. It was on target but straight down his throat.

Saxby gave us hope of joining in the game by rounding his marker and a good low cross should have been put into the net, but Dan Munday was inches wide of connecting.

Sims then went low to gather a 20 yarder and Evans broke up an attack on his flank as Moneyfields continued to press.

A glimmer of hope came when Kelly linked with Oldring to open up a gap in the middle. Dyer moved the ball on to Gajic and a cross was caught by the keeper before Lovell could get his head to it.

Homer tried a run on the left but got stranded upfield when the attack broke down. The ball was put in behind him and a cross spelled danger until Kelly got under it and cleared.

Lovell Munday, back to Lovell then a chip from Lovell to give Munday a run on goal. The keeper advanced and saved at feet.

Dyer and Saxby broke free of shackles. Gajic joined the attack by a crossfield ball from Saxby. No time was lost in crossing into the box but yet again a good keeper went up high to thwart Lovell.

On 36 minutes we gave away a free kick. A floater dropped on to an unmarked head and we found ourselves 0-1 down.

Oldring then battled to win the ball from another threat on goal and Sims made a good reflex save from a close in shot.

Half Time 0-1.

There was a sign of energy that had been missing in the first half as we immediately strung a good move together with Saxby leading the charge on the right. Lovell and Munday moved into spot expecting the cross but the keeper again anticipated well and a safe pair of hands took the ball off Lovell's head.

Moneyfields response was simply to work the ball quickly on their right and after we allowed a runner to round three of our defenders we found ourselves at 0-2.

Webb went close with a rasping shot that whistled over the bar and then Saxby crossed for Lovell to head over.

Moneyfields hit back and Oldring cleared a corner wide left. Gajic went free and tried a 20 yarder. The keeper watched it clear the bar.

We seemed to be reverting back to our first half lethargy. Moneyfields had their tails up and pressed us back. Evans and Homer were busy containing wide players whereas we were making it simple for our visitors by hitting long balls for Lovell and Munday to run on to. Moneyfields central defenders had a field day picking off the aerial bombardment.

64 minutes we decided to put on fresh legs but looking at the bench recognised they would be merely different. Murray got the nod. Next problem was that he had forgotten to bring out his shirt!!. A couple of minutes were needed whilst mental aberration was rectified. Then he lumbered on.

For ten minutes we gave the impression of poor education. We couldn't count to two. We only challenged for the first ball and consequently lost out time and time again to a more forceful Moneyfieds.

Oldring and Kelly were on overtime. Luckily Evans and Murray were able to contribute to stopping a wave of attacks.

In the last ten minutes Webb and Dyer got back into the swing of things and we began enjoying more possession.

Saxby was unlucky to watch a great shot palmed out of the goalmouth and then Dan Munday hit the side netting as we pushed forward. Lovell went close and Oldring planted a header from a corner over the bar.

Dan Munday came off to give Sam Joy an outing and Darren Munday came on to partner brother Dan in the closing stages.

93 minutes and the ball was in our net as Moneyfields rounded off the game with a third.

Result 0-3
