VERWOOD TOWN RESERVES 4 FAWLEY AFC RESERVES 0
The bench looked good. Much better in fact than the subs using it.
The team was arguably strengthened by the inclusion of Kelly Dyer and Gajic. Although Gajic was still in the 'recovery' stage after foot problems, Management team of Munson, Gale and Watts decided he would be included to speed up match fitness.
Kimber was first to spark an attack with a good ball down the line for Gajic. A sliding tackle took the ball and Gajic into touch. The throw landed in the box and Gill's boot half connected to send the ball wide.
Fawley moved the ball centrally and a Harding tackle stopped progress. Harding's ball wide to Snow, overlapping on the right created space and a good cross was palmed cleared by the keeper.
A minute later Snow again made headway down the right, a pass inside to Dyer and a Dyer pin point cross landed for Gajic to steer the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Fawley's reaction was to attack down the left and a shot hit the inside of the post and rebounded out of the area.
8 minutes and Gajic benefitted from a piece of Joy magic. The keeper had strayed off his line and Gaic sublimely chipped the ball into the net for his and Verwood's second.
We stayed on the attack and Snow went clear with blistering pace down the right. If only he had remembered to take the ball with him it would have been a good move.
Harding was warned by the man in black for a robust tackle as Fawley maintained an attacking mode. One move across the back four resulted in the full back volleying a line ball for the flank man to chase. The ball was in full flight as it hit Cobley between the legs. A glazed expression was noticeable as Cobley slowly toppled like a felled tree. Thee Adams apples had appeared and it took a few minutes for the almost comatose Cobley to regain balance and stand up.
38 minutes and it was Gill who broke free to convert a Gajic pass into a goal. 3-0.
Stroud had been untroubled for most of the half but sprang into action to palm a wicked cross shot past the post.
43 minutes and we reacted with another Gill goal as he raced clear following a Kelly clearance header from a Fawley attack. 4-0.
Half Time 4-0.
Dan Joyce came on for Mike Snow at the beginning of the second half and was quickly in the fray joining Harding in stemming a central Fawley attack.
Harding enjoyed a bit of freedom and with a couple of minutes on the clock was unlucky to see his shot fly narrowly wide of the post.
16 minutes and a corner forced by Fawley dipped under the bar. Stroud did exceptionally well to claw it away. Cobley, although running a bit odd booted clear
Matt Collins, suffering a thigh strain came off and was ably substituted by Alex Eaton.
While we were still settling, Fawley stretched us on the left and a break resulted in a great shot arrowing for the top corner. Stroud sprang high and palmed the ball away to Kelly. Kelly turned and a long ball gave space for Gill to beak free. A shot form just inside the box was on target but a great save from the visiting keeper kept the score down.
Luke Conrad was wakened by Neville Munson and came on for Damien Gill.
Then followed about ten minutes of none activity. The only excitement came when Bernie Scott uncorked the Bovril.
Stroud was called into action to push away a long hopeful lob and then we hit the post at the other end when Kimber connected with a Dyer cross.
Gajic was still busy pushing and probing. Five minutes left and a Gajic through ball gave Dan Joyce a chance of glory. The side netting dampened spirits.
Cobley, now fully recovered after his trauma, ran free of his marker and an excellent cross dropped into the box. Gajic turned quickly to fire on target. The keeper palmed away. Sam Joy connected with the rebound but again our spectator was disappointed to see the ball hit the side netting.
The referee decided he'd had enough and whistled on a Verwood win.
Result 4-0.
