Match Report vs Verwood Town vs AFC Bournemouth 20-Jul-13

PRE-SEASON MATCH
SATURDAY 20TH JULY 2013
VERWOOD TOWN 1 AFC BOURNEMOUTH DEVELOPMENT TEAM 0

A lively start down our left had Kelly scuttling across to block a shot. The ball rebounded and Oldring wasted no time in skying a clearance. We woke up.

Webb shouldered his marker off the ball and slipped a pass wide for Hill. Hill's progress was checked just outside the box but still got a cross in for Saxby to wellie the ball over the bar.

Brad Magookin making an appearance for us moved through the middle and tried a shot on the turn but watched it go wide.

8 minutes and a move between Saxby & Webb finished with Saxby crossing for Haskell. Haskell almost rose above the grass to reach the cross but a defender climbed a bit higher and headed clear.

A retaliatory strike down the left wasn't coped with very well and the resultant cross was flicked on to goal. Luckily it skipped over the bar.

18 minutes and we enjoyed a spell of possession against a good young team. We had to play well. Dyer then was the architect of a run on goal by Hill. A cross shot was superbly taken by the keeper.

Homer worked the ball out of defence and finally appeared on the right hand side of the park. A high cross for Haskell and Magookin was palmed up into the air by the keeper, Magookin performed a double shuffle and lobbed the ball back over the keeper. A defender appeared from nowhere to head the ball off the line.

Bournemouth pressed forward. Good running off the ball and accurate passing was a feature but we held up well and shining through was the work rate of Dyer and Webb. Saxby was also very prominent with quick feet in the area.

Hill whipped a cross into the box and Webb planted a header over the bar.

42 minutes had Kelly surging forward. A ball on to the spot and Saxby hit a rasper. The keeper made a terrific reflex save.

We continued pressure and a Hill cross found Haskell free but the header went over the top.

46 minutes and Magookin wriggled through a packed area. A blocked shot helped the ball into the area. A volley was blocked on the line and then Magookin tried a back heel that almost crept in but finally kicked off the line.

Half Time 0-0

The first minute indicated drive and desire from Bournemouth's side to get their nose in front. An excellent move down our left finished with a low cross. Quick feet, side footed the ball past Lynch but over the bar.

Bournemouth's pressure continued. Pace was maintained but several passes went astray letting us in.

55 minutes a misplaced pass was picked up by Homer. A line ball found Saxby and a quick cross was headed into the keeper's hands.

Bournemouth hit back immediately. A good move through the middle and then wide right split us open and it was Gajic who had shuttled back to head clear.

Straight back down the other end and Webb smashed a ball into a packed defence. The ball spun free. Saxby had a crack and then Dyer swept in to shoot just past the post.

61 minutes and pressure paid off. Haskell and Hill worked the ball into the box. A half clearance and the ball fell to Saxby. A narrow angle offered a chance and Saxby took it well, volleying the ball across the keeper into the net. 1-0.

Dyer, Homer and Hill caused a ripple down the left and cutting inside, Hill tried a shot that the keeper handled well.

The middle of the park at this stage was well contested with honours even. Gradually though we emerged on top and pushed our visitors back into their third.

Haskell and Saxby were firing on all cylinders and proving a handful for the Bournemouth defenders.

Dyer was Mr Motivator putting an excellent shift into the game. It was Dyer's through ball scything its way past the central duo that gave Haskell a crack at goal. Again a good save from the keeper kept the score down.

Lynch, who had been relatively quiet for a time was suddenly employed with a flurry of attacks but between Lynch and our back four we kept intact.

Gajic and Lovell had late efforts saved and the game finished with the ball sailing over the trees from another Saxby shot.

Result 1-0
