Match Report Lymington Town vs Verwood Town 30-Mar-2013

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE - PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 30TH MARCH 2013
LYMINGTON TOWN 0 VERWOOD TOWN 0

Having found their scoring boots with 13 goals in the last 4 games Verwood headed off to Lymington with two changes to the team that triumphed so impressively during the week against Hayling Utd. James Murray replaced Kris Anderton and with Matt Oldring called up by AFC Totton, Martin Smith was available to fill in at centre half. Those hoping for another game of free flowing attacking football as witnessed during the week were to be disappointed. On a bitterly cold day and a hard and bumpy pitch quality football was at a premium. Verwood had the only chances of the opening 30 minutes. A Gajic shot following a corner was well saved and a clever back flick from Haskell put Webb in for a chance but he shot over from 15 yards.

Lymington’s first real chance came on the half hour when a shot from 12 yards went over the bar when scoring seemed easier. Having had slightly the better of the game so far we were letting Lymington back into it. A mis-kick from Murray in his own half gave an opponent a run on goal but Murray redeemed himself with a great tackle and put the ball out for a corner. Just before half time the danger signs were there as a Lymington header bounced back off the bar. The second half didn’t provide us with any more excitement than the first and defences remained on top. On 48 minutes Webb found himself receiving a pass well into the opponents area and appeared to be bundled over but our appeals for a penalty were ignored. A fantastic 40 yard volleyed pass from Dyer found Hill who turned well in the box but shot straight at the keeper.

Just as we were looking to create a little more key players were going down with injuries. Gajic and Haskell were replaced by Joe Kimber and George O’Sullivan. Both teams were pushing for a winner but neither were successful. With 10 minutes left only our second corner of the game was met at the far post by Smith but he couldn’t keep his header down. A corner soon after for Lymington produced an even better headed chance but this also went over and Lynch had kept a second consecutive clean sheet. Our final opportunity came in the last minute when an O’Sullivan ball across the box couldn’t find the necessary touch to divert the ball home. F-T 0-0
