Match Report Verwood Town vs Lymington Town 14-Nov-12
SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
WEDNESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2012
VERWOOD TOWN 3 LYMINGTON TOWN 2
After a blank weekend previously Verwood were fired up for their meeting with close rivals Lymington and it showed in the opening two minutes when Ben Kelly was presented with an early chance from a corner but his shot from 8 yards out was blocked on the goal line. Verwood were making the early running and on 7 minutes Saxby picked up a loose ball, attacked the defence and fed Satterley whose 20 yard shot was deflected for a corner. Dyer floated it in and Haskelldinho was on hand to force the ball home from 6 yards. 1-0
Lymington tried to fight back and forced a corner on 10 minutes from a 25 yard deflected shot but this brought no danger to the home goal. Verwood continued to look the most dangerous going forward, a great flick by Haskell freed Hill whose low hard cross was headed out for another corner. 20 minutes and Gajic beat his opponent and worked an opening for a shot that was well saved. From the breakaway Lymington found themselves in a 4 on 3 situation as our defence had gone awol and despite their best attempts at messing up the situation finally found a shooting option that nestled in the back of Lynch's net. Still our defence had not arrived 1-1.
If that wasn't bad enough, two minutes later another opportunity was given to the opposing attacker and once he'd realised how much space and time he had picked his spot beyond the despairing dive of Lynch. 1-2. Our attempts to fight back started with a Dyer shot that was wide and then on 35 minutes Evans went on a mazy run and set up Saxby beautifully who unfortunately seemed caught in two minds between a cross and a shot, the upshot being neither happened. Lymington were allowing us plenty of chance to run at them and this time Saxby found himself in a good position on the left and his cross found Satterley but he couldn't connect properly and a chance had gone. With 5 minutes of the half left we got the equaliser we deserved. A Satterley free kick 25 yards out was cleared back to him, he played a 1-2 with Haskell and fired home from the edge of the box.
Half Time 2-2
The first half had been entertaining if nothing else. A change at half time for Verwood saw Anderton replace Hill on the left. Lymington started the brightest in the second half but only had a couple of half chances to show for it. 55 minutes gone and Verwood were starting to wake up again. A nod on from Haskell sent Saxby through and his cheeky lob from 20 yards beat the keeper and cleared the bar as well. Lymington were also starting to look dangerous although most of their opportunities were long range efforts.
With 20 minutes to go Verwood seemed to sense they were going to have to push hard if they wanted the three points and started to do so. Haskell chested the ball to Saxby and his first time shot was no trouble for the keeper. The breakthrough came on 74 minutes. A wild & reckless lunge on Satterley just outside the corner of the box saw Verwood awarded a free kick. Lymington protested long and loud but to no avail, had they lost their focus in the gathering mist? It appeared so as Anderton's precision cross was guided in by Gajic's head 3-2.
With 5 minutes on the clock it looked more like Verwood would score again. A great move down the left saw Anderton set up Satterley and his great strike rattled the post. Late danger though as Lymington forced a corner on 88 minutes. The dropping ball was punched clear by Lynch, cue much relief all round. Into stoppage time and the visitor's frustration boiled over when the left back who had given away the free kick that led to Verwood's winner had clearly had enough of chasing Sats around and decided to stamp on him, red card duly brandished by the referee.
