Match Report Alresford Town vs Verwood Town 20-Oct-2012
SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 20TH OCTOBER 2012
ALRESFORD TOWN 1 VERWOOD TOWN 1
It was a fast start with good football as both teams went for an early goal. Alresford were first to try a shot forcing Lynch to make a diving save. Saxby received Lynch's throw and made ground down the right. A cross was intercepted and Alresford were back on the attack. Delaney stopped the danger on the edge of the area.
8 minutes gone and Haskell fed Satterley out on the left. Satts delivered a great low shot but the keeper was in prime position to collect.
Back came Alresford. Smith got under a high cross and the ball cleared to Delaney, on to Kelly down the line to Elysee and in field to Gajic. Gajic threaded the ball through a tight central defence and Saxby was blocked from getting to the ball in the box.
20 minutes Alresford broke free on the left. A terrific cross but the runner miscued and hit the corner flag.
25 minutes and a well worked move through the centre was pumped wide left but the cross was too high for the forwards. Elysee benefitted and slipping the ball to Dyer helped set up a quick counter attack. Dyer made ground and found Haskell on the edge of the area. Haskell's turn was blocked and the ball spun free.
Gajic, and Saxby then made ground on the right and across was hammered low by Satterley. The keeper again was spot on with his positioning and safely gathered.
33 minutes ad a free kick just outside our area was carefully driven in forcing Lynch to make a good catch just under the bar.
4 minutes later Lynch again was forced into action as Alresford maintained pressure.
39 minutes and we retaliated through Saxby. Spotting Satts free on the other flank Saxby pinpointed his pass and Satts saw a rising shot deflected over the bar. The corner was booted clear.
3 minutes left and Delaney saved the day with a strong header out of the box with Lynch caught adrift. Back in it came and this time Alresford's effort hit the side netting.
Alresford stayed on top. Just before the whistle another cross caused concern but Smith was on hand to head clear.
Half Time 0-0
The game continued with pace and both teams committed to attacking football. Only 2 minutes had elapsed when Delaney had to clear a cross. Saxby gathered the clearance and made ground on the right. A deep cross found Haskell racing in but a flick of the head sent the ball wide.
Another header from Haskell with 6 minutes gone had the keeper scrambling and then Elysee tested the keeper with a cross shot from the left.
8 minutes and Alresford had Lynch producing a diving save palming the ball out of the 6 yard box. A mad scramble followed with shots hitting a block defence and it had to be a Kelly toe clearing the ball out of the area to save Adie Arnold having a heart attack.
Then came a brief spell of midfield play with little movement forward, The only movement to note was Dartson's bowels. The clearance was everyone on the bench.
13 minutes and Haskell forced his way through three tackles. Threading the ball inside defenders gave Satterly room and racing wide left unleashed one of his best efforts to date. The net bulged 1-0.
17 minutes and Satterley hit another screamer but the keeper this time body blocked, the ball spun free and Haskell slammed the rebound for goal. A half clearance from the fullback and Dyer cut in to try a shot. The keeper watched it graze the bar.
21 minutes and Evans cut out an attack on the edge of our area. Blistering pace took him clear of mid field. A great cross and Haskell headed just over the bar.
An immediate reaction from Alresford had Saxby tracking his opposite number. A great tackle stopped progress on the edge of the box.
We were forced to defend with 15 minutes left as Alresford pushed on. Kelly and Smith blocked an attack on Alresford right and then we dipped a bit allowing a couple of shots to get through. Lynch was equal to anything thrown at him.
Elysee's ankle problem forced him to make way for Batchelor.
Gajic and Satterley both had shots and both disappointed not to hit the target.
84 minutes and the ball floated on to our penalty spot. A mad scramble followed. There were more people in the box than spectators in the ground. A half prod and the ball found its way into the net 1-1.
Full Time 1-1
