Match Report Cranborne vs Verwood Town 6-Oct-2012
DCFA DORSET SENIOR CUP - ROUND 1
SATURDAY 6TH OCTOBER 2012
CRANBORNE 0 VERWOOD TOWN 3
Chris Lynch resumed his job in between the sticks but Jack Smith had to withdraw half an hour before the kick off with a twisted ankle.
A warm day excellent pitch and Cranborne attacking straight from the kick off. The local fans were on a high. A shot from 20 yards luckily stuck in Lynch's gloves.
Passing from both teams left a lot to be desired and mistakes allowing interceptions and counter attacks were rife.
Gajic tried a hopeful 25 yarder and then Hill produced a mazy dribble, rounding his full back but firing wide.
Cranborne's response was a couple of corners one of which flew just over the angle of crossbar and post from Antell's head.
Lynch produced a couple of good saves and Evans was instrumental in clearing the area on a few occasions under Cranborne pressure.
We got better and Dyer then Satts tried shots that a good keeper did well to hold.
19 minutes and we finally cracked Cranborne's resistance. Satts rounded his marker and a right foot low shot finished up in the back of the net. 1-0.
We were now on top generally and pegged the home side back in their half. A danger always was the counter attack but Delaney, Kelly and Evans read the game well enough to provide good cover for Lynch.
A snap attack down our right hand side had Lynch diving low right to prevent a goal, and then Evans blocked a shot from just inside the area.
26 minutes and a Matt Steer shot hit a defender and flew wide of the post. Haskell slammed the corner goalwards but the keeper punched clear.
Delaney then had to make a brilliant tackle to stop entry into our box but the referee thought it was a foul. The free kick was deflected by a defensive wall and out for a corner. Lynch made a fantastic save from a volley destined for the back of the net.
41 minutes had Delaney and Steer inking up in attack. Steer brought Satts into play and then Haskell headed just over from Satts cross.
Half Time 1-0
Only 45 seconds had elapsed and Cranborne whipped through the middle of the park finishing the move with a rising shot. Lynch had it covered and set up a counter attack throwing the ball wide to Kelly. A perfect pass found Saxby. Saxby's cross was too near the keeper for Haskell to do damage.
4 minutes and it was Gajic making ground. A chip ball over the centre half gave Haskell room but before he could have a shot the referee's whistle blew for offside.
53 minutes we won a free kick just outside the area. Satts low shot was palmed out for a corner. A minute later the corner became our second goal of the game as Gajic blasted the ball past the keeper from 3 yards. 2-0.
We pressed forward. Some of the Cranborne players looked a bit tired and we took advantage.
Hill's industry on the left paid off when skipping round the full back hit a great cross for Haskell to head over the bar. Hill was brought into play immediately from a Delaney ball and a shot across the keeper went narrowly wide.
58 minutes Haskell came off to give Web a run. Webb was in the mix within seconds as Steer squared the ball to him. Webb made ground and then fired a cross field ball to Gajic. Gajic on to Satts. Satts found Saxby racing in but Saxby's shot went high and wide.
62 minutes and Gajic ran clear of his marker. Spotting the keeper off his line a delightful chip hit the back of the net. 3-0.
Cranborne found energy and a couple of minutes later created space on the left. A low cross flew across the box forcing Lynch to produce a diving save at the foot of the post.
Steer, Webb and Gajic moved through the middle. Gajic chipped the ball over defenders. Webb raced round the back and a cracking shot was brilliantly saved.
It wasn't one way traffic as a very resilient Cranborne team was always a danger on the break.
Cranborne rallied just before the final whistle and shots on 76 and 78 minutes had Lynch in action.
O'Connell came on for Steer with 10 minutes left but the score stayed…
Full Time 3-0
