Match Report Verwood Town vs Tadley Calleva 26-Mar-2011
SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 26TH MARCH 2011
VERWOOD TOWN 4 TADLEY CALLEVA 1
Fawcett, Delaney, Webb, Saxby, Dear and Wrixton all missing. Chris Lynch donned the gloves leaving a new central pairing of Martin Smith and Robbie Mills. Tom Freeman came in at right back and James Murray at left back. A couple of other shuffles and we were ready for the kick off.
We had to wait five minutes for the first real attack and this fell to Tadley. A well worked move on the right resulted in a break to the bye line. A cross followed in, looked dangerous but Mills got his positioning right and a good solid header cleared the danger.
Gajic, Aspin and Dyer exchanged passes and we moved into the last third with Elysee calling for the ball. A deep cross found him and a shot on the run made the keeper make good save.
Haskell tried a shot but again the keeper made a good catch. A long kick cleared the mid field and Tadley broke through to test Lynch. A low shot to Lynch’s left and a flying save brought a hand clap from all two of the crowd.
Aspin lost a chase with the keeper but got his own back with 14 minutes gone when Smith’s clever lob cleared the centre backs allowing Aspin space to slot the ball into the bottom corner. 1-0.
Tadely, stung into retaliation cut through on the left but the shot from 12 yards gave no problems for Lynch.
37 minutes and Haskell’s run across the back line was spot on as he raced clear of defenders and put the ball in the net. 2-0.
2 minutes later Tadley again were in the clear but fortunately again hit the ball straight at Lynch.
It was end to end for the last five minutes finishing with Elysee hitting a great shot for the top corner but seeing a good keeper make an excellent save.
Half time 2-0.
60 seconds gone and we went three up as Elysee produced a hooked shot from just inside the 6 yard box that this time the keeper couldn’t reach.
We then had ten minutes of mid field play with neither side able to create chances. Dyer worked hard alongside Adams in a stalemate situation.
Sam Adams gave way for Ben Richards to take a bow with 13 minutes gone.
64 minute and a sweeping move on Tadley’s right split us wide open. A low cross flew across the box and a right foot blaster gave Lynch no chance making the score 3-1.
Tadley were now imposing themselves more as we seemed to ease back. Smith and Mills had to work harder and had it not been for a superb Murray tackle in the box we could have been looking at 3-2. Freeman moved the ball up field from another Tadley attack and this time Aspin ran clear but only to hit the ball straight at the keeper. We ground our way back into the game and although our passing wasn’t as crisp as the first half we enjoyed a bit more possession.
75 minutes on the clock and Gajic, Dyer and Murray worked the ball down the left. Murray finished off the move with a cross into the box and a Haskell trade mark header flew into the top corner. 4-1.
Tadley’s resilience shone through. Some good football straight from the re start created a hole in our defence and a shot from just inside the box proved just how good Lynch was on the day as he dived low to his left palming the ball away for a corner. Smith rose above everyone in the box to clear danger.
Tom Freeman gave way for Leon Scott and Carl Smalley came on for Brad Aspin.
Richards had a shot with a minute left but the game petered out with a good result and three points.
Full time 4-1.
