19-Feb-2011
BOURNEMOUTH DIVISIONAL FA - SATURDAY LEAGUE 1
SATURDAY 19TH FEBRUARY 2011
VERWOOD TOWN 9 FENCING CENTRE 0
We had a strong team to face FF. Our last game with them resulted in a 0-3 result so we wanted three points.
Squad.... Fawcett Freeman Homer J Morrison Martin Giles Adams Arnold Homer Goodall Rogers Moore Quilter Weedon.
FF was quick off the mark with a break on their left but Morrison raced across to make a telling tackle removing the danger.
Richard Stainer’s pep talk took a few minutes to sink in but words were well heeded as we pressed forward.
Goodall working alongside Homer looked to be full of goals and with Sam Adams pace on the right carving out space it was only a matter of time before we scored.
8 minutes Homer was freed centrally and outpacing his marker slipped the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 1-0.
10 minutes Adams crossed into the box. A panic clearance fell to Arnold who powered a volley that both the keeper and full back dived to save. The full back won the diving competition and was sent off for handling on the line. Homer stepped up and slammed the penalty into the net for his second of the game. 2-0.
18 minutes Goodall picked up a ball on the left and cutting inside put the ball in the net from the edge of the area. 3-0.
The loss of the full back was telling on the FF team and we virtually camped in their half.
32 minutes and a good move sparking from Gary Martin released Goodall and a scoop ball dropped nicely into the net. 4-0.
42 minutes Goodall went wide, slipped his marker and a low cross caused a tussle between Homer and the centre half. Homers presence was enough to force the CH and the ball into the net. 5-0.
Half Time came with a 5-0 scoreline.
Freeman had put in a great performance in the first half and was finding room again to join the attack.
49 minutes gone and Freeman outpaced a full back to collect a Homer pass and lashing the ball past the keeper made it 6-0.
57 minutes Rogers raced wide and squared the ball to Giles. Giles slipped the ball inside the full back for Rogers to hammer the ball low past the keeper. 7-0.
A short sharp rally from FF had Dan Fawcett stretching but there wasn’t any sting in the attacks. Jon Homer dropped into centre half spot and Paul Moore was enjoying the left back position finding room to support Arnold.
Weeden was on for Gary Martin and got into the thick of things winning a strong tackle and sending Adams away on the right. A deep cross and Rogers swung a boot to fire over the bar.
64 minutes and Freeman again joined the attack. A run across the box a right foot rocket and goal number two for Freeman went up on the board. 8-0
Goodall was knackered. He was dragged off for Quilter to add some talent to the forward line.
Homer working the central position made space for a shot at goal but this time the keeper did well to save at the foot of the post.
Giles had a shot. A pigeon tonight will be sore.
Arnold worked the flank and Moore carried on through to plant a deep cross into the box. Morrison (now named Spring Heeled Jack) climbed higher than anyone else to power a header destined for the roof of the net. The keeper yet again did extremely well to save under the bar.
83 minutes and a mazy run by Homer split the defence. Weeden closed in and buried the pass past the keeper to make it 9-0.
The game finished with a remarkable score line 9-0.
