Match Report Odd Down vs Verwood Town
14-Aug-2010
FA CUP EXTRA PRELIMARY ROUND
SATURDAY 14TH AUGUST 2010
ODD DOWN 1 VERWOOD TOWN 1
We decided to have a crack at the F.A. Cup. So for the first time in the Club's history we set off for our first attempt to see just how far we could go.
Drawn against Odd Down FC (Bath) we made a stop at the Red Lion for sustenance. Matt Delaney's order of Eggs Benedict was binned and he got two in date sausages a fried egg with some baked beans like the rest of the squad.. 'Come Dine With Me' has a lot to answer for.
Fed and watered we kicked off on time and OD was first in to the attack with a good move down the right. Murray, quickly into the tackle, won the ball and sent Homer away on the flank. Homer's studs were missing so we witnessed a toboggan slide as Homer, rectum powering through some surface water, finished up over the line but without the ball.
Dyer's cross shortly after, was blocked from reaching Haskell and OD put together another good piece of football moving the ball across the pitch and dropping a high ball into the area. Tong was out quickly to thump away the danger.
The game continued end to end with OD edging the play in the first half of the 45 minutes. Kelly and Arnold worked hard in the middle and gradually eased their presence into the game. Arnold tried a snap shot from the edge of the box but the keeper made a good save. A quick throw put OD on the attack down the left and Matt Dear did well to force play to the corner flag. A snap tackle and Dear won the ball to play in Matt Delaney. A through ball found Haskell but a tight marking centre half won the tackle putting OD back in our half.
Tong made a brilliant save at feet and then acrobatically tipped the ball over the bar from a dipping shot.
Kelly had a shot that whipped over the bar but the half finished with OD slightly on top.
Half Time 0-0
2 minutes of the second half gone and Tong had to make a clean high catch to keep the score sheet clean. Then a corner with 7 minutes gone needed a replica catch but this time Tong spotted Homer wide left. Homer's changed boots prevented a slip so he was able to take delivery and make headway to the edge of the box. A cross ball found Elysee and the shot was spilled by the keeper. In went Arnold but was flagged offside.
We were enjoying a bit more possession at this stage and a good move between Kelly Dyer and Elysee earned a corner. Dyer's cross didn't have any height so it made for an easy clearance.
17 minutes and we were split wide open down the middle. Luckily the ball was volleyed high and wide.
18 minutes a cross from the right was hammered in but again high and wide.
19 minutes gone this time a cross from the left, a shot from the edge of the box and the bar was grazed as the ball whistled over.
We were living a charmed life mainly because we had lost a bit of concentration allowing OD more freedom from the middle of the park.
A move through the middle left a one on one. Tong read it well and a save at feet was a highlight.
Murray and Homer combined to give a Homer a chance of a shot and the inside of the post cruelly sent the ball back into play.
77 minutes OD won a free kick 30 yards out. A high looping ball was contested and the ball spun free. A flick of a boot and OD went ahead 0-1.
Williams had come on for Ben Kelly and in the 83rd minute found space but scuffed the ball with only the keeper to beat.
Could we get that all important goal.....84 minutes Homer broke free on the left and a pin point pass found Haskell whose glancing header earned the replay for this coming Wednesday night.
Final score 1-1
