Match Report Lyndhurst vs Verwood Town
24-Jul-2010
PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
SATURDAY 24TH JULY 2010
LYNDHURST 0 VERWOOD TOWN 3
Chas Elysee grabbed the number 7 shirt before Adie had put it out. No way was our top scorer of the close season being demoted to full back.
The aggressive streak was taken onto the pitch. Delaney's chip over the full back was hammered goalward by Elysee's right boot but all that happened was a pigeon losing feathers.
Lyndhurst got themselves together and a good move down the right took the attack to the edge of the box. Delaney and Lynch formed the barrier to goal and the ball was floated high into the area. Matt Dear's tackle was timely to stop a shot bothering Tong.
For a few minutes the game seemed to be destined for a middle of the park contest but Kelly broke the pattern with a pass wide to Dyer. Dyer's run down the right stretched play and the cross was fired in by Mills. The keeper did well to hold the shot and the clearance gave Lyndhurst forwards an opportunity to set up a counter attack. Arnold and Newbery had funnelled back and a collective effort gave extra support to our back four to reduce danger.
Delaney was becoming more adventurous and joining up with Arnold and then Newbery found room to smash his first goal for the Club.
1-0.
Elysee was livid but accepted the score line without his name on it.
Kelly was enjoying himself and triggered a couple of attacks that regrettably came to nothing.
A corner....up went Lynch followed by Delaney. In came the ball and Lynch powered a header just over the bar. Delaney found himself floored. Elysee apologised for the obstruction.
Half Time 1-0
Out we came for the second half and got a surprise from a side that had gathered themselves together to hit back.
Some good football followed and we had our work cut out keeping things in check.
Tong had a couple of long distance shots to deal with but with only 5 minutes gone a sweeping move down the left let in the home side for a crack just inside the box. Tong made a tremendous save from a volley and then diving to his right flicked a low shot round the post.
Matt Dear and James Murray dug in and with the usual formidable Delaney and Lynch stopping up the middle cut down incidences in the area.
13 minutes, Delaney broke out of attack and joined up with Newbery. Racing on Delaney hit number two without breaking stride. 2-0.
Elysee produced a sound of breaking teeth.
Lyndhurst then really got in their stride and was unlucky in the 15th minute of the half with a cracking piece of football that deserved better than a clipped post.
Mills cleverly chipped the keeper but the ball sailed narrowly over the bar.
Newbery had a shot saved and then Arnold slammed a shot over the top corner as we managed to get back on top.
Murray and Dear now find time to overlap and we went close with a couple of shots from crosses.
10 minutes to go. A frustrated Elysee went down to the bye line and cut the ball back to the edge of the box. Screaming for the return Elysee raced into the area and a half volley whipped past the keeper.
The game finished 3-0 with a more relaxed Elysee promising to pay back those who were buying him drinks after the game.
Full Time 3-0
