A bright start. Williams broke on the left but his rising shot didn’t have enough zip to worry the keeper. Aldermaston’s retaliatory attack made Jamison’s telescopic leg work overtime and the ball was diverted for a corner. Up went Fawcett. We are still wondering why as the ball was still at the corner flag. There were no verbal’s so it couldn’t have been tourettes. Later Dan said it had been a decoy to confuse Aldermaston’s forwards. The ball was cleared by Lynch.

8 minutes and Homer won a battle for the ball. On he galloped to the bye line and a great cross was diverted for a corner. Aldermaston’s defence proved better than our forwards as a powerful header cleared the danger.

4 minutes later Murray made a cracking tackle just outside our area and switching the ball to Homer opened up a gap for Homer to race clear and send a deep cross into the box. Baguley wasted no time in arrowing a right foot shot past the keeper. 1-0.

A minute later Arnold sent Williams free with a ball just inside the defenders. Goal No. 2 hit the scoreboard as a clinical finish made it 2-0.

Another minute and Williams made it his second of the game as he volleyed a left foot shot into the roof of the net, 3-0.

Three goals in as many minutes...unheard of.

21 minutes we forced a corner and Lynch soared like a legless Gazelle to plant a header safely into the keeper’s hands from only a foot from the line.

42 minutes Inspector Gadgets right leg extended an extra 12 inches to plant the ball past the keeper to make it 4-0. This was Mark Jamison’s 5th of the season.

It could have been another for Homer with a minute to go but his point blank shot from Dyer’s cross went straight to the keeper.

Half time....4-0.

We forced the pace and won a corner with only 6 minutes gone. The ball sailed through the box without anyone getting near it.

7 minutes and Lynch had to limp off. He said it was a muscle strain. Adie pointed out that Men didn’t limp off but Limp Men had to. Those of us in the dugout thought it unkind.

16 minutes of the half saw Baguley get his reward for persistence. A good forward passing movement opened up Aldermaston’s back four and Baguley seized the opportunity to rifle a low shot past the keeper for our 5th.

Jack Mills raced on to the pitch to join the forward line. He hasn’t been seen since.

We continued pressure. Aldermaston appeared to be flagging a bit as we pushed forward.

Baguley slammed a shot just wide of the post and Dyer blasted a left footer over the bar as we tried to increase the score line.

Homer made a brilliant run with 17 minutes gone and a cut back ball from the line gave Baguley a clear shot. The keeper pulled off a fantastic save.

Williams came off giving Mark Harrison a run. Then minutes later we had to relieve Ben Kelly of his role, helping him to untie the ball from his left peg. Andy Munson filled the gap.

Homer and Baguley continued their assault ably assisted by the energetic Dyer. Aldermaston’s keeper had a great game. It could have been more had it not been for his presence.

The game and season finished with a 5-0 victory.
