Match Report Fawley AFC vs Verwood 13-Feb-2010

SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 10TH APRIL2010
FAWLEY AFC 0 VERWOOD TOWN 0

A lost Verwood ‘will to win’ attitude was resurrected at Fawley.

Only three minutes had elapsed and we had had two worthwhile efforts on goal culminating with Baguley being dropped just outside the area. Taking it himself, Dan sent a bender but the keeper held the shot. A long throw sent Fawley on the attack and it was the long leg of Jamison that stretched the extra inch to divert the ball into touch and away from danger.

5 minutes Baguley took a corner. The ball flew through the area without anyone managing to get a toe to it.

2 minutes later Williams and Baguley combined to break through. Williams tried to lob the advancing keeper but the ball hit the bar and bounced clear.

We were having most of the play but Fawey looked dangerous on the break.

12 minutes saw a sparkling move. Jamison Kelly and Dyer interchanged. Dyer freed up Baguley. A neat back heel and Dyer had space to cross deep into the area. Homer was denied a chance of a shot with a last ditch tackle by the centre half.

The game rolled on providing good entertainment for the spectators.

Fawley dug in and managed to get possession for a while. A FK caused some confusion but Fawcett emerged with the ball breaking up the problem.

10 minutes to go Arnold broke through the middle and a 25 yard shot had the top corner of the net written on it. Unfortunately the keeper had other views and a brilliant flying save kept the sheet clean.

3 minutes left and Fawley raced clear. Jamison stretched his leg and the ball was flicked to safety.

Half Time 0-0The start of the second half was more route one than the spirited football display in the first half. Both keeper’s were on their toes and some excellent cover play from both back fours gave the spectators their money’s worth.

5 minutes and a great move by Fawley split us open in the middle. The ball came in low and a swivel shot flew over the bar.

18 minutes and again we had a lapse of concentration letting in a forward for a one on one. Fawcett won.

A minute later it was Lynch and Elysee stopping a central raid. Lynch released Elysee a chipped ball found Baguley. Baguleys cross was intercepted and a long ball found the centre forward. Lynch blocked the shot on the edge of the box. Trying a chip ball to Arnold Lynch gave the ball to the centre forward. Realising the coloured shirt was wrong Lynch won the ball back in a sliding tackle. Jamison latched on to the loose missile and a cross ball found Kelly. Kelly spun twice trying to get the ball on ho his left peg. Eventually he made it and slid the ball back to Murray. Murray sent away Homer, Homer cut in and low shot from the edge of the box hit the side netting.

Kelly was coming more into the game. Noticeable though was his left leg syndrome. It was decided he had a prosthetic right leg. The only damage to it he could get would be wood worm. Ben’s efforts to win the ball were relentless and with 10 minutes left he had a long range shot that clipped the bar and went over.

7 minutes left....it was Arnold again surging through to slam a 20 yard shot that brought out a fantastic save from the keeper. The throw was intercepted. Elysee chipped it back and Baguley just on the edge of the six yard box hit a screamer that flew back off a defender’s left leg. The ball dropped into the six yard box and about eight players fell about, some trying to clear and some trying to score. Eventually the referee blew his whistle to try and locate the ball plus separate the arms and legs.

A rousing finish to the game saw chances at both ends but the result:-

Full Time 0-0
