A crucial game. Spurs looking for a promotion spot and us looking for anything we could get.

It was pissitively possing down in Verwood as the convoy left for Spurs. An earlier phone call said it wasn't raining on Spurs pitch and it worried us that Spurs had employed some sort of divine intervention to get the game on.

Remarkably Spurs pitch was in good condition considering the downpours so we had a headcount and realised Lynch Dyer and Mills had left before us all but hadn't found the dressing room. A quick call and Lynch said had used an up to date sextant to navigate and was at the pitch. Unfortunately they had turned up at Farnborough North End. We sent up flares and welcomed them with five minutes to kick off.

5 minutes on the clock and we forced a corner. Baguley took it and picked out Jamison. A steaming header whipped into the roof of the net. 1-0. A dream start.

Spurs were stung and an excellent move split us open for a low shot to fly past Fawcett making it 1-1. 8 minutes gone.

A lively outside left tormented us for a while and long enough to slip past our defenders and place the ball wide of Fawcett. 1-2.

This time it was us that had to dig in and we found enough grit and determination to hit back. We went close a couple of times but with five minutes to go Lynch targeted Bagley on the edge of the Spurs box. The ball was inch perfect. Baguley brought it down then lifted it over a defender. Catching it on the volley it flew into the net and made for a great goal. 2-2.



Evans almost had the ball in the net with a 30 yard effort but it whistled inches wide of the angle.

The half closed 2-2.

Spurs produced a great move immediately after the whistle but a great block by Jamison stopped Fawcett from an energy spill.

14 minutes into the second half Newbery cut in from the right and was dropped unceremoniously outside the box. Up stepped Dyer and the ball flew past the defensive wall and hit the bar with the keeper stranded.

Spurs hit back with some good football but tempers frayed as frustration set in with both teams wanting the next goal.

Handbags flew but it was some of the spectators who drew more attention with suggestions of hospital food being the diet for the next few days.

It all settled down and the game progressed to an end to end feature until the 19th minutes when Paul Arnold forced his way through the middle and unleashed a tremendous shot from thirty yards that hit the roof of the net making it 3-2.

A minute later Homer closed in on a cross ball and a low left foot shot made it 4-2.

Spurs had no intention of giving in. They strung together some cracking football considering the conditions and it was our turn to dig in again.

Jamison and Lynch were excellent and proved to be our major barrier presented to Spurs.

Attacks from the flanks had us stretched a bit but Elysee and Evans had enough energy and guile left to block shots on Fawcett.

3 minutes left and a free kick floated into our box. A mishit clearance allowed Spurs in for a third. 4-3.

A cracking finish for the spectators as Spurs pushed us back and we tried the counter attack. It was a great three points.

Final Score 4-3.
