Match Report Verwood Town vs Christchurch
14-Jul-2009
PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
TUESDAY 14TH JULY 2009
VERWOOD TOWN 1 CHRISTCHURCH 2 (Played at Holt)
A last minute goal in the first half gave
Christchurch a half time lead in this first friendly of the
season. A very much changed side for Verwood displayed excellent
touches on the ball and even Steve Moore (said to be a stone
lighter -probably a gall stone) looked sharp.
The second half changes to the Christchurch side gave an
indication of Graham Kemp's concern. A presence in the form of a
cardiologist said it all.
Up stepped Luke Homer with 20 minutes gone of the second half and
a vicious left foot curler flew past a static keeper. 1-1.
New signing Kris Anderton and Sam Jones were then under pressure
as Christchurch whipped the pace. Dan Fawcett made a couple of
cracking saves and then produced the save of the game with full
stretch dive to divert a penalty away from the area.
Ben Truan, leading the line, worked hard but we didn't apply
the pressure we should so giving a more comfortable time for the
Christchurch defence.
10 minutes to go, a good move down the Christchurch right opened
up our defence and a couple of shots were beaten out before the
ball squeezed past Fawcett to finish up in the corner of the
net.
We didn't have the penetration to level the score so the
first friendly of our season finished 1-2 with Luke Homer scoring
the first of the season.
