Match Report End Of Season Presentation Evening 9-May-2009
VERWOOD TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
SATURDAY 9TH MAY 2009
END OF SEASON PRESENTATION EVENING
The Club's Dinner Night was held at the Heathlands Hotel Bournemouth.
Master of Ceremonies Neville Munson did a fantastic job to keep everyone awake throughout the night.
Not only did Neville conduct introductions he also covered the Second Team's activities and great escape from relegation.
Verwood's ace 'Snapper' Roy Mortimer, produced a slide show taking us through the season beginning with Mike Fry in portrait stance. The opening scenes were supported by Dallas' opening theme tune. Roy's perception of the Committee and supporters was spot on as the audience were able to pin names to the cast. Odd ball was the pairing of Bernie Scott to the poisoned dwarf!!
Up popped Nigel Reeves to give his review of the season and the squad. Remarkably he didn't need a red card for overstaying his welcome.
Trophy's followed and only Steve Reeves needed assistance to lift his young player of the season shield.
The lighting proved to be a bit of a puzzle but both Neville and Nigel said they were quite accustomed to groping in the dark.
Sadly Jan and Steve Yerby announced their departure from the committee. Jan and Steve's input throughout the season was tremendous. Steve's handling of the cash was perfectly documented and as they set sail in their yacht to the Cayman Islands next week they go with our blessings.
Nigel Reeves announced that he was to step down as Assistant Manager to the first team and will be sadly missed for his Orange Juice and Jelly Babies supplies.
Another departure brought the audience to its feet. Not with glee but with great respect for the input we have all benefitted from over the years.
Judith Fry stepped down from office. The leagues we are associated with also acknowledged the loss of a very much respected and capable Club Secretary.
The night rolled on and Neville's ongoing mastery of the one liners kept it light hearted.
Presentations from the players to their respected Mangers was a feature, ............but then came the raffle.
There was a chance of losing the players to the bar as proceeding stopped. Where was Steve Yerby? The Committee raced to the exits......
There was a 'pregnant pause'.................
Bernie Scott made a failed attempt at levity and then thankfully up stepped Steve Yerby to run the raffle and close the night.
A highlight was Adie Arnold for the first time giving his views in open forum.
Two announcements as well..........
Nigel Watts is to join Neville Munson next season in managing our second team.
Roy Mortimer has accepted the challenge of becoming Club Secretary.
We still need a few new face's on the Committee to prepare for another challenging but exciting season........2009/10.
Any volunteers will be most welcome.
