Report
Woe the missed chances!
Overall a very open and entertaining match that should have been
a draw, with both teams making numerous chances, although the
better ones throughout the match fell to us.
The first 10 minutes was very even until from a corner the ball
was headed clear to the loitering Charlie Elysee who rifled in a
shot into the bottom corner of their goal. Back came Redlynch,
but in truth we dominated the next 15 minutes until against the
run of play, they broke from a corner, swept the ball from right
to left, crossed and their centre forward got there first to
equalise with a deft flick. Five minutes later they are leading
when a superb strike from just outside our box flew into the back
of our net. Still the goalmouth action hadn't finished, with
us fighting back. Tristan Dorey was causing them problems up
front and we were attacking down both flanks.
A cross from the right saw Paul Stephens impeded in the box and a
penalty was awarded. Missing our regular penalty takers, Karl
Foster took responsibility but completely mishit the kick which
looped kindly into the static keepers arms.
Two minutes later, Karl almost made amends with a superb volley
from outside the box, which their keeper did well to turn away
for a corner. From the resulting dead ball kick, Pete Eyre got in
a powerful header that the keeper punched away! Charlie had
another shot, Pete headed over from another corner and you just
felt the equaliser was coming but we would have to wait for the
2nd half.
Amazingly there were no further goals to come. We battled hard
and created more chances, Tristan made their keeper push another
shot round the post, Andy Munson who had come on for the injured
Charlie, shot from the edge of the box and the ball was scrambled
off the line. We were playing almost a man for man defensive
system, which although allowing us to attack in numbers did allow
for a few heart stopping moments at the back, but we kept going.
Re jigging the formation, Conor Moore came into defence, Ben
Giles into midfield, Andy Munson and Carl Smalley joining Tristan
up front and with Will Cobley enjoying a lot of possession wide
right we continued to take the game to them. Time was running out
and Redlynch were doing well to slow the game down, ticking down
the minutes. In the very last minute, Andy timed a run to
perfection, took the ball in his stride, shot and the ball flew
three inches past the outside of the post. From the resulting
goal kick the final whistle
blew……………..
