Report
I had high hopes for a result today; however things started going
wrong right from the start. An accident on the Salisbury road
meant it was closed and all routes through the Forest were at a
standstill, so we arrived at the ground 3 minutes before kick
off!
As all our Goalkeepers were unavailable we had taken Chris Willis
from the 1st team and we also had Lynchy for a bit of match
practice. However, as much as I keep stressing the need for
players to communicate with each other, they don't listen and
we allow ourselves to be put under pressure due to uncertainty
and hesitation. Our ability to defend corners was woeful and it
came as no surprise that after half an hour we had conceded from
a corner, where our players seemed to stand still. Saying that
within a couple of minutes we were level with Steve Reeves
intelligent run that sprang their offside trap winning the ball
and squaring it to Matt Newbury to slot home.
Just before half time though another sloppy bit of defending saw
us go into the interval 2~1 down.
We were caught on the break 20 minutes into the 2nd half to
concede again although up until then we had caused them problems
with both Matt and Tom missing golden opportunities. I'd
decided to give them another 15 minutes as we were as likely as
Redlynch to score the next goal, but with 10 minutes to go
brought on Pete Eyre with the instructions to play 3 at the back
and push Lynchy up as an additional forward. Chris had the ten
minutes to bag a hat-trick and within ninety seconds scored his
first!
3~2 down with 7 mins to go, we threw everything at them but
unfortunately to no avail and we were caught out again in the
minute to concede our fourth.
Overall performance wasn't one of our better ones, but on a
hot day the team's effort couldn't be questioned.
