Match Report Hamworthy Utd vs Verwood 2-Aug-2008

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
SATURDAY 2ND AUGUST 2008
HAMWORTHY UNITED 4 VERWOOD TOWN 1

Long ball from the centre spot. A runner…0-1. 10 seconds gone!!!!!!!!!

Two more vallium and Adie gathered his thoughts. Nigel removed the noose from his neck (despite protests) and we tried to get the ball from the opposition.

We just didn't have it in the opening minutes. Oceans of room, poor tackles gave Hamworthy and easy ride.

20 minutes into the game and Yerby Moore and Goodall moved the ball quickly and accurately down the left. A through ball to Goodall and a shot blocked on the edge of the box gave sign of intent.

King's running off the ball created space and Homer linking well with Cousins split the home team wide open for a snap shot from Homer to skim the bar.

Lynch and Moore worked well at the back and Willis' handling was excellent. By this time we were having the better part of possession and we looked as if we might pull the goal back.

33 minutes Homer and Goodall worked down the flank and a through ball to King gave space for King to round his marker and slot the ball home from an acute angle. 1-1.

Hamworthy slammed back from the kick off and a shot heading for goal was headed clear by Moore.

Arnold and Cousins worked the centre of mid field and Dyer was brought more and more into the game. Dyer's shot with a couple of minutes left of the half warranted a goal but it rose a shade too high and skipped the bar.

Half Time 1-1

24 seconds gone of the second half and Fawcett (on for Willis) collected the ball from the back of the net. We had done it again!

Long ball from the right, unmarked player 1-2.

We got into the game a bit quicker in this half and Dyer tackling back won a tussle to free the ball for Yerby to slip a pass to Homer. The cross was hoofed out of the area. Elysee collected the clearance, on to King then to Dyer. Dyer's cross found Homer and a cross shot whistled inches wide of the foot of the post.

We enjoyed a good spell of possession but Hamworthy always looked dangerous on the break.

Two good moves from the home side saw a shot go over the bar and then a header just inside the box sail wide of the angle.

57 minutes Arnold strode free, on to Elysee then to Dyer. A cross found King marked by two defenders, a muscling off the ball carried King free but the keeper raced out to punch clear.

59 minutes…Goodall off…Reeves on.

We continued working hard and none more so than Paul Arnold. A good piece of play gave space and Arnold rattled a shot that warranted a goal but Lady Luck denied the score sheet in favour of a dead ball.

Pushing up cost us a goal. A break on the left and a free run into the box gave an easy tap in 1-3. A slight injustice on the balance of play but we got what we deserve d for not being more attentive.

King almost pulled one back but a last ditch tackle blocked the effort with the keeper well beaten.

We were too eager. With five minutes left we pushed forward again and a long looping ball into our box was misread and it bounced in to finish the scoring at 1-4.
