Match Report Verwood Town Reserves vs Committee/Supporters/Sponsors 27-Dec-2007
"A NIGHT FOR THE STARS" - FLOODLIGHT FRIENDLY
THURSDAY 27TH DECEMBER 2007
1ST HALF - VERWOOD TOWN RESERVES vs CAST OF MANY (Read On!)
Neville Munson wanted to get some of VTFC 's stars of the 80's and early 90's together for a game under Potterne's new floodlights. His ability in the art of delegation paid off handsomely. Adie Arnold became a Munson disciple and gradually the squad grew.
Was the Messiah satisfiedN.a simple NO.
What about the Sponsors and anyone else he could get hold of that represented the possibility of including him in a round after the event? Martin Gilham, Andy Mercer and others were all tapped up so that Thursday 27th December 2007 became the night they came together along with Neville's Ressies to produce a football extravaganza.
The crowd swelled. Even tax exile Bert Pharoah made an appearance on the second row. (They were taking a collection on the first row).
The first game kicked off at 5.30 pm. Martin Friendship and Steve Leigh spearheaded the Sponsors and despite the mummified legs of Steve Leigh the first shot on target had Randall scampering along his line to keep the Ressies from going behind.
Jim Dyer, having learned a few things recently from Russell passed the ball inside to Steve Course. A pass to Gilham and a shot from just outside the box went wide of the upright.
Mercer and Wright felt comfortable at the back despite some frantic shots from Hunt and Dorey.
A couple of minutes left and the Ressies pinched a goal to keep their promised bonus intact.
The crowd hushed, heads turned, no it wasn't the long awaited appearance of the 'Ancient Ones' it was Luke Homer, current
first team Captain, parading past spectators with a low slung brown leather hand bag, matching accessories including fish net tights and high heels !!!!! Had the closet released another one ?? We learned later all is well. Luke was only delivering them to his other half. He said it saved carrying them.
News broke that centre half Cliff Miller had had to withdraw. He pulled a muscle in the warm up. A buzz started when it was announced that Steve Richards was getting changed to deputise. Out came extra supplies of Deep Heat.
Willie Ahern, Graham Foster and Martin Shutler we learned are now members of Verwood's Alzheimers Society. They had forgotten to turn up.
Billy Andrews volunteered to act as Manager to the All Stars and so it was that at 18.25 hrs we were ready to kick off.
