Match Report Verwood Town Reserves vs Westover 8-Sep-2007
BOURNEMOUTH FA (SATURDAY) LEAGUE DIVISION 1
SATURDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2007
VERWOOD TOWN RESERVES 1 - WESTOVER 4
It was always going to be difficult kicking off life in Bournemouth Division One for the first time
and it wasn't made any easier when just before the kick off the ref informed us he was being assessed which meant
he had to 'Play by the Rules'. Never the less it didn't spoil what turned out to be an entertaining game.
It took us five minutes to adjust to the tempo set by our opponents and we were lucky to avoid conceding a goal.
Thereafter for the next 30 minutes we totally dominated the game and had them on the back foot.
During this period we moulded a number of chances, however good goalkeeping woeful finishing and the
woodwork conspired to keep us out.
After 35 minutes we were caught with our defence too high up the pitch and a ball over the top allowed their forward
to chip over the advancing Colin Randall. Thirty seconds later we were 0-2 down.
Heads went down and we held on without conceding further before half time.
At the start of the second half we cam out and resumed our attacking style,
causing all sorts of problems before Andy Martin controlled a cross, swivelled and volleyed us back into the game.
The following twenty minutes we again peppered their goal, until on a breakaway they were awarded a
corner and a near post header saw us trailing 1-3. With eight minutes to go we conceded a fourth.
On the whole we played well, dominating the majority of the game but was caught out for four poor defensive goals.
At least we can rectify this.
Upon consultation with their Manager after the game, his comment was that the scoreline was flattering,
which anyone else there would have agreed with.
His parting comment was that he was off to do his lottery ticket. My responseNunprintable.
