SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION THREE
SATURDAY 18TH FEBRUARY 2006
OVERTON 6 VERWOOD TOWN 1

The daily's highlighted the split between Chantelle and Preston. Kevin Bennett had again made his mark. Chantelle had fallen for the Blond Adonis keeping goal for Verwood.

Suddenly a shout from Adie Arnold indicating a question as to parentage broke through Kevin's thoughts and he realised the ball had been slid past him for Overton to take the lead with 5 minutes gone.

Three minutes later Chris Lynch became frustrated. Watching Overton's centre forward with the ball at his feet and failing to have a pop at goal, Chris did a Peter Kay. Taking the ball very positively, Chris gave Kevin Bennett no chance with a shot that beat the sound barrier.

0-2. Eight minutes into the game. We had quickly mastered the art of giving the ball away. Overton was given more gifts than Santa Claus hands out. Fortunately Bennett had mentally remained with us and had to bring off a couple of saves to stave off more embarrassment to VTFC Management.

Bircumshaw looked out of place as he stopped a right flank raid and released the ball to Eyre. Eyre promptly passed it wide to set up an Overton attack. Burner raced across but couldn't get a toe to the ball. The cross flew across the box knee height, Overton forwards plunged in but missed it completely. Lynch decided to show them how and cleverly , flicked it past Bennett. 0-3.

Beverley was then booked for loitering in midfield.

Truan looked like the Lone Ranger up front chasing lost causes. Chas Elysee put himself about in the middle of the park and made sure neither Eyre nor Dyer saw the ball. It was an all round team effort to make Overton look so good.

0-3 wasn't enough so we gifted a fourth on half time.

Half Time 0-4

A couple of changes to the team and formation took place at half time and it did look as if we had cured a malaise.

Dyer collected a pass from Elysee and linking with Beverley slipped past the defender. A cross from the bye line and in raced Truan to fire wide. There was a glimmer of hope that the team had realised we were here to give Overton a game and not three points.

Overton hit back and Lynch was the pivot around the central bombardment of high balls trying to get the home team's forwards back in the game. Lynch and Giles looked as though they were back with us and for about 15/20 minutes we had Overton pressed back in their half.

We gradually slipped back into first half mode. Overton looked good again. They selfishly kept the ball moving between their own players while we looked on.

We had the odd bit of mental aberration and half way through the half got ourselves outside Overton's box. We didn't know what to do but at least we got there.

Ten minutes of normal time left and Overton got a fifth.

Five minutes of normal time left and Overton got a sixth.

One minute of injury time and Elysee raced down the left to miss kick.

The ball flew across the box and Truan took the opportunity of spoiling the home side's hopes of a clean sheet.

The game finished 1-6.

Nigel Reeves was found after the game in a prone position but St John's Ambulence people brought him round.

Adie Arnold was heard to say he had every intention of giving our Back Four, Viagra next week to stiffen up their performance.
