Match Report Millbrook vs Verwood Town 13-Nov-21

WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 13TH NOVEMBER 2021
MILLBROOK 0 VERWOOD TOWN 6

We had a winning mentality at the start of this game that had been missing recently and had the ball in the net after only three minutes had elapsed.

Danvers made a run down our left and a good cross was half cleared by Millbrook’s defender’s. Webber latched on to the ball and whipped a low cross into the box. Chilman followed in and steered the ball past the keeper. It looked a good goal to many but the flag denied an opener.

Millbrook reacted with a quick counter but Cooper stopped progress with a great tackle winning the ball.

Our passing and movement was the best we’ve seen for a few weeks and we pushed Millbrook deep into their half.

Davies suffered a heavy tackle on 11 minutes as he cut in from the right. Before he got his shot away a sliding tackle took his legs. His free kick deserved more than hitting the cross bar and flying out.

We maintained pressure, Osman and Chilman went close with efforts from the edge of the box and Webbers industry won an opportunity but a coat of varnish denied celebrating a goal.

26 minutes gone and we got what we deserved. Hall, Elsom and Burt combined to release Hall in the middle. Hall’s chip for Davies found feet and rounding his marker Davies delivered a low ball into the box. This time the linesman’s flag stayed down as Chilman hammered the ball past the keeper 1-0.

Our second followed 2 minutes later when Davies outstripped the full back and from a narrow angle beat the keeper with a daisy cutter. 2-0.

Osman then clipped the cross bar and Chilman almost had his second with a rasping shot that flew over the angle.

Cooper and Hall were now dominating the midfield and prevented Millbrook’s rally in the closing minutes of the half pulling back their deficit.

Half Time 2-0.

We kicked off where we left off, on the attack. Osman sent Webber free from the whistle but a great piece of defending diverted Webbers shot for a corner. Burt joined the crowded box but put his header just wide of the post.

Watkins and Danvers were exceptional in keeping a Millbrook rally quite and with Elsom and Burt containing lively centre field players quite, O’Connor had only the odd break to deal with but did so without any trouble.

27 gone and Watkins split Millbrook’s defence sending a through ball for Kelly to go free and steer a left footer past an advancing keeper. 3-0. Kelly’s introduction was only 6 minutes old after replacing Osman.

We were now enjoying more possession and it was inevitable we grabbed another.

28 gone and on came Vining for Watkins. A couple of minutes later and we notched a fourth When Davies robbed the ball in midfield and found Chilman on the edge of the box. Chilman made no mistake with a rising shot into the top corner. 4-0.

On 38 Cooper made way for Hancox.

A minute left of normal time and Chilman celebrated a hat trick with a chip over an advancing keeper 5-0.

We slipped into extra time. It was enough for Vining to climb high to head a Danvers cross past the keeper. 6-0.

Result 6-0.
