A third round fixture against top of the Prem Hamworthy United proved to be a nail biter.

A quick attack down Ham’s right was halted abruptly as Danvers swept in to take the ball off toes. Unfortunately the ref judged it to be a bit robust so Ham’s free kick gave activity in the box. Elsom powered the ball away winning an aerial battle.

A counter sparked by Cooper made ground to the edge of the Ham U box. Hall swiveled to hammer a low volley for goal but bodies blocked the effort. A fast paced game developed.

11 minutes and Maher was glad to watch an angled shot fly over the bar. A goal kick found Zanin and a mazy run finished with a low cross into the edge of the box but which proved just too far for Tubbs to get a toe ender.

Back came Ham and a high cross into the box was headed clear by Kelly. Evans collected, shrugging off a heavy tackle Evans slid the ball wide for Danvers to overlap and cross. A good keeper went to ground clutching the ball on the line.

It was then Maher’s turn to prove quality with a terrific save from a 20 yarder.

Elsom and Kelly had a busy time curbing enthusiastic Ham forwards but came out tops.

On 43 minutes we gave the ball away in midfield and an opportunistic gap let in a runner to give Ham the lead.

Half Time 0-1.

Smith came on for Cooper at the beginning of the second half and after 15 minutes Vining made way for Zanin.

We got more possession as the game progressed. Hall Tubbs and Zanin were proving a handful for the Ham defence and a flurry of activity in their box should have resulted in a couple of goals but we were woefully off target on the night.

Butler went close with a volley on 35 minutes and then had a shot saved on the line by the keeper.

A scramble in the `Hamworthy box in the last few minutes should have put us in with a chance of the Quarter Final but we lacked the finish.
