Match Report Verwood Town vs Folland Sports 27-Oct-20

SYDENHAMS (WESSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
TUESDAY 27TH OCTOBER 2020
VERWOOD TOWN 2 FOLLAND SPORTS 4

The old cliché ‘A game of two halves’ applied to this one. A first half of endeavor with mistakes at both ends typified the half time score line of 2-2.

Diop Evans benefitted from a Josh Hall through ball and whacked in a volley to open the scoring with only 2 minutes gone. We should have shut up shop but didn’t. 3 minutes later Chris Lynch was picking the ball up from the back of the net as we allowed space and suffered for it.

The game was contested fiercely and both boxes had thrills and spills. We should have gone ahead on several occasions but our decisions in Follands third were not up to standard.

Slack marking half way through the half let in Follands for a cross from their right and an ocean of space left in the box meant a simple tap in for their second. 1-2.

A bite back followed and a couple of minutes later Anderton scored with a great header from a King delivery. 2-2.

Zanin’s zip and zest was a feature but Folland’s defence was tight and robust. We couldn’t crack the shield.

Cooper and Hall beavered away in the middle whilst at the back Watkins excelled against a good left flank.

Towards the end of the half Danvers did well to cut out a forceful run from Follands forwards and pushing up floated a peach of a ball into Follands’ six yard box. No one had followed in to capitalise. Another opportunity lost.

Half Time 2-2

Zanin made way for Meddah to have a run but the second half belonged to Follands. We failed to maintain a decent challenge and were always second best.

Snatches of last week were evident but consistency in this game wasn’t there. We spluttered in the challenge and it was no surprise when we gave away a free kick that was converted from 30 yards looping over Lynch giving Follands the lead.

A brief rally saw King hit the side netting and Vining skimming the post with a shot from close in.

19 minutes was the killer when we gave away a penalty 2-4.

A token of resilience and fight back was brief. Follands closed ranks and we didn’t have enough in our locker to bounce back.

Follands came for three points and we let them have them.

We were totally at fault for allowing ourselves to be overrun without fighting back.

Result 2-4.
