Match Report Folland Sports vs Verwood Town 24-Feb-18

SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 17th FEBRUARY 2018
NO RESULT - MATCH ABANDONED AFTER 41 MINUTES WITH SCORE AT:-
FOLLAND SPORTS 0 VERWOOD TOWN 1

Ryan Kelly spotted Turner’s run with only a minute on the clock and a threaded ball slipped past defenders. The keeper was alert enough to spot the danger and raced out to clear.

We stayed on attack. Dyer prompted and probed in the middle of the park. A ball wide found Davies, a low cross and a hasty clearance gave us a corner. An inswinger drifted into the box and Ballard slammed his shot wide.

Follands line ball with 10 minutes gone was intercepted by Jaco. A pass inside found Dyer, on to Browning, a cultured chip sent away Guthrie. Progress was halted by a sliding tackle taking out Guthrie’s legs. The free kick, taken by Dyer, dropped in the area. Kelly swiveled and volleyed but the ball whipped wide of the upright.

Watkins was tested by Follands left wing but with Browning’s support stopped any danger and a ball down the line sent Turner away. A cross was claimed by Gale, but his shot was blocked by Follands’ bodies in the box.

Sam Thompson, deputizing for Isaac Haigh confidently held a Follands cross shot and then had to race from goal to clear as Follands responded.

18 minutes gone and good approach work put us in Follands third. A couple of attempts were blocked but Gale raced in to smash us ahead with low shot clipping the post on its way to the back of the net.

Thompson claimed a high cross as we allowed ourselves to be pushed back giving space for Follands to make ground.

We picked up again with Jaco working the left flank alongside Davies. Good feet took Davies past his marker but his chip into the box was palmed out by the keeper. Kelly tried a ‘dipper’ but the keeper made a second save.

Guthrie won a strong tackle with 24 minutes gone and rounding his marker found Turner with a raking ball. Tuner was dropped unceremoniously on the edge of the box. Dyer’s free kick was well held by the keeper.

30 minutes gone and a linesman fell face down as he raced down the line trying to keep pace with a Dyer sprint. The game was then held up whilst Tara (our physio) tended to the damage.

Unfortunately it was a hospital need for ankle damage and the Referee had no alternative but to abandon the match.

GAME ABANDONED ON 41 MINUTES.
