Match Report Verwood Town vs Laverstock & Ford 07-Oct-17

SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 7th OCTOBER 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 4 LAVERSTOCK & FORD 0

Our passing quality in the first 10 minutes wasn’t up to standard. Laverstock & Ford looked the more polished but they too had blips. Ben Daniels brought off a couple of stunning saves during the opening exchanges but we settled and got back some pace and rhythm.

A Davies cut back from the bye line with 12 minutes on the clock was fired inches wide by Guthrie and then a follow up move sparked by Frost swept down the right. A Gale / Guthrie combination created space on the left, a ball across the area gave half a chance for a shot and Russ Dyer put the ball in the back of the net with the keeper stranded. 1-0.

Laverstock & Ford reacted with a move down their left but Weber’s cover on the flank was enough to cut out the threat.

Browning O’Hare and Ballard proved impenetrable to the Laverstock & Ford forwards. An in form Daniels gave added confidence that we could cope with Laverstock & Ford’s attack.

Mid field was contested strongly and with 27 minutes on the clock Frost and Gale won tussles gaining possession. The ball whipped on to Guthrie and a clever chip cleared the keeper leaving the ball to nestle snugly in the back of the net. 2-0.

Half Time 2-0

The second half started as expected with Laverstock & Ford pushing on to reduce arrears. Ballard stopped the first attack on the touch line with a strong tackle that was ruled a foul. Daniels pounced on the free kick to make an excellent save at the foot of the post.

Frost had a header saved by the keeper and Guthrie was upended in the box but denied a penalty claim.

Half way through the half Webber joined in an attacking move on the right. Guthrie threaded an inch perfect ball in Webbers path and a right foot drive sped past the keeper into the bottom corner. 3-0.

Richardson debated several tackles with the referee but was a major influence in holding the middle of the park.

A minute of normal time remained when we cut through Laverstock & Ford defence and Guthrie finished the move with well placed ball past the keeper. 4-0.

A Good performance and a very much deserved 3 points.

Result 4-0.
