Match Report Fareham Town vs Verwood Town 28-Jan-17

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 28TH JANUARY 2017
FAREHAM TOWN 2 VERWOOD TOWN 2

It was a brisk start. White escaped his marker’s attention to hit the bye line and whip in a low cross. Fisk was inches away from connecting. Only a minute gone. A long clearance had Elsom cutting out the attack. A cross ball to Donachy sparked a counter. Donachy’s return created space for Elsom to hit the box with a lob. Bergin latched on to the ball but his effort whistled wide.

One or two handbags were flourished the most notably was a scything tackle whipping Joe Kimber’s legs from underneath him. Andy Hardiman’s treatment did the trick and Kimber was able to resume.

We edged the first twenty minutes in possession but then Fareham pressured and earned a larger slice of the ball.

Vaughan saved a 20 yarder and Kelly blocked a volley on the edge of the area as we were forced back.

With 30 minutes gone Dyer gained a corner. Warren connected but was disappointed to see his shot blocked on the line and cleared.

42 minutes we won a free kick. Dyer hammered the ball through the line up forcing a brilliant save from the keeper.

A minute later though we suffered from a lack of concentration when a shot was allowed from the edge of the area. The ball hit the bar, shot up in the air and dropped for a bundled goal. 0-1.

Half time 0-1

The dressing room message was simple. Keep plugging away and carry the game to the home side.

Elsom, White, & Smith worked the ball down the right with Smith chipping the ball on to Fisk. A topped shot made it easy for the keeper. 46 minutes gone.

47 minutes and a stung Fareham hit back down the left. Donachy spotted the danger and a superb tackle stopped progress into our area.

Fareham’s defence was well marshaled and although we created space and opportunities we were denied finishing.

58 minutes, Frankie White gave way for Max Fletcher to have a run.

It was good open football with thrills and spills at both ends. Then with 60 minutes on the clock a clash in our box resulted in a penalty decision. It was well taken and we found ourselves at 0-2.

Kimber’s return to fitness was on show with a great contribution and a cheeky lob over the advancing keeper could have reduced the deficit had the ball dropped a bit earlier and under the bar.

We worked harder, none more so than Dyer with tireless effort.

Warren’s ball through the back four was a golden chance for Fisk but again a goalkeeping lesson was handed out as the ball was deflected away from danger.

78 minutes Dyer’s free kick was inch perfect for Smith to power a header past the keeper 2-1.

6 minutes left and Jamie Webber came on for Jordan Fisk. Webber was in the thick of it straight away as we pushed on.

Dyer, Elsom Donachy, a ball wide right. A deep cross and Smith followed in with a terrific header making it 2-2.

Warren came off for Purton as Adie Arnold went for fresh legs to see if we could notch a third. We tried hard but couldn’t break the 2-2 score line so had to be satisfied with a well earned point.

Result 2-2
