Match Report Verwood Town vs Moneyfields 22-Aug-15

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST 2015
VERWOOD TOWN 0 MONEYFIELDS 5

Kick Off was delayed for 15 minutes because of heavy traffic delaying the Moneyfields coach.

For the first five minutes we were sorry they had got to the ground at all. Within a minute they had a shot just wide and then a cross finding a runner whose header fortunately soared over the bar.

Gajic got us back on track with a good run and shot that tested the keeper. Atkinson and Mills delivered a couple of good crosses but we had no one on the end of them.

Mills chased a ball down to the dead ball line winning a corner. A defender's header cleared the danger but Gajic had anticipated the drop and fired a good shot low for the bottom corner. The keeper did well to hold the ball on the line. Moneyfelds hit back down their left and a cross into our 6 yard box was cut out from reaching goal by Kelly's stretched leg.

Brimson won a tussle for the ball and released Gajic. A ball wide found Dyer. 25 yards out Dyer's ball dipped but again the keeper anticipated placement and took a great catch under the bar.

Wood's grubber almost crept in but this time the keeper's foot diverted the ball for a corner. Mills took it and an inswinger was punched clear. We just couldn't get past the Moneyfields last line of defence.

Moneyfields pushed us back. Dyer and Gajic beavered away in the middle trying to contain a lively midfield. Evans was under pressure from a series of line passes for the Moneyfield's left flank.

We had the edge on play for a while and then got caught a sucker blow when we got caught on a counter attack. The ball whipped in from the left and a shot on the run from 25 yards finished up in the back of the net. 0-1.

28 minutes almost provided a leveller as Atkinson linked with Evans and broke free. The ball was switched inside for Dyer and a pass inside gave Gajic a chance of a shot. The keeper again had it covered. !!!

42 minutes a ball played back to Lynch was intercepted and a delicate chip cleared our keeper to make it 0-2.

We looked a bit ragged and pleased to hear the whistle for half time.

Half Time 0-2.

We needed to get ourselves back into the game and almost snitched a leveller when Gajic hit a cross shot destined for the corner of the net. The keeper made it look easy. His long clearance was tracked by Evans, a pass back gave Lynch an opportunity to hit a front runner. Atkinson went clear but yet again the shot was body blocked by the man between the sticks.

59 minutes gone and a cross into our box rolled across the edge of the area. A shout of next man was judged enough to award a penalty….. 0-3.

61 minutes saw Mills swap places with Fisk. Fisk's introduction to the fray was instant. A ball wide and Fisk raced free to slide the ball back to Groves. A shot hit defenders. Wood got in the mix and was unlucky to lose the ball to an odd bounce just inside the box.

Then with twenty minutes left we decided there was no reason to apply effort so Moneyfields were treated to an afternoon stroll.

Our back four had more than enough to cope with as we surrendered the middle. Wood looked like the Lone Ranger as players struggled to link up. Conversely the Moneyfields' team taught us a lesson in wanting the ball and spending energy in a 'Will to Win' attitude.

Kelly headed a threatening cross clear and then Harding's do or die tackle stopped a clear shot on goal.

We had collapsed. Shots tested Lynch and we were reliant on breaks but with no one joining our Nomadic Wood made no impact in the Moneyfields third.

73 minutes Groves made way for Rutten.

81 minutes Dyer made way for McGilchrist.

We should have put the subs on without bringing anyone off. It might have helped not being overrun.

Lynch was constantly busy as Moneyfields went for more. We were slack and were second best. Gone was the spirit we displayed in the second half against Bemerton.

84 minutes Christmas came early for Moneyfields as we opened up in the middle allowing a trotting player to slot the ball past Lynch for their 4th. 0-4.

94 minutes we decided Moneyfields should go home with a nap hand and let them in for a shot into the top corner 0-5.

Result 0-5.
