Match Report Hamworthy United vs Verwood Town 6-Apr-15

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
MONDAY 6TH APRIL 2015
HAMWORTHY UNITED 4 VERWOOD TOWN 0

It was a fast start to this game with Buck penetrating the Hamworthy back line and then to see his cross hammered upfield. The counter attack was clinical with Murray blocking a drive from the edge of the area and giving away a corner. Donachy rose above the crowd to head clear.

The pitch was rutted and didn't make for a passing game unless in the air. Hamworthy were better than us in finding players in channels and put us under intense pressure with runners getting amongst our back four.

6 minutes on the clock and a break through midfield gave an opportunity for a Hamworthy shot. A 20 yarder hit the ground in front of Lynch. Lynch dived low and the ball whipped up over him to finish in the bottom corner 0-1.

We rallied and Gajic headed a corner onto the bar. The keeper did well to palm it away as it dropped back into play. Groves hit it back in only to see a big boot steer the ball into touch.

15 minutes gone and Hamworthy's pace through the middle caused concern. McGilchrist covered well reducing the shooting opportunity to one from the edge of the box that Lynch took easily.

We won another corner through Brimson pressure on the full back. The result was another Gajic header onto the bar. This time it bounced over for dead ball.

Hamworthy had the edge on play and worked their channels well. Evans, busy keeping a lively flank player under wrap, had to double up sweeping as play switched.

Murray did well to stop an attack on the right and a line ball gave Josh Buck space to attack. Cutting inside his marker, Buck fired a great cross into the penalty box but defenders blocked the danger and cleared up field.

Yet another race and this time it was Donachy who got in the fray to prevent a clear run on goal. A pass wide to Brimson sparked a retaliatory attack but his cross landed on top of the net.

34 minutes gone we suffered from a clumsy clearance and a spill giving an opportunity for a close shot making it 0-2.

In the last five minutes Murray and Buck forged a link that put crosses into the area. Good solid defending kept us off the score sheet.

Half Time 0-2.

We shuffled the pack at half time changing the formation with 'Taff' Richardson swapping roles with McGilchrist.

Buck whipped in a good cross on 49 minutes but the keeper had it covered and made a good catch.

We stayed on the attack. Brimson broke through on the right but his cross landed on the roof of the net.

Dyer was beavering away in the middle and won a free kick. He found Richardson in the 6 yard box. Richardson's turn was partly blocked but he got a half volley away hitting a defender. Gajic hit the rebound on target but again hit defenders.

Hamworthy hit back winning a corner. Lynch made a great catch under pressure and hoofed the ball wide for Buck. A sprint past the defender and Buck cut the ball back from the bye line for Groves. Defenders got there first so the opportunity was lost.

Dyer then hit a great shot from 20 yards and was frustrated by a brilliant left hand deflection by the keeper.

We pushed higher up the pitch and Evans was enjoying more of the ball on overlaps. A good run was blocked winning a free kick. Taking it himself Evans dropped an excellent ball on the spot and Donachy won the header but only to plant it in the side netting.

70 minutes we got taught a lesson. Not clearing early we got caught in defence. A run across the area gave space for a left foot shot and Lynch had no chance in stopping the third goal. 0-3.

We had enjoyed an edge on possession but Hamworthy had put a solid defence together and we didn't have the guile to make an impact on the score line.

73 minutes and Groves Dyer and Gajic worked their way through the defensive block but only to finish yet again firing wide of the post.

79 minutes … Groves came off for Rutten and McGilchrist made way for George Richardson.

We pushed on but couldn't crack our zero on the score board.

Hamworthy pressurised in the last 10 minutes and with 2 minutes left an excellent piece of play and 25 yard dipping volley finished the scoring with a comfortable 0-4 score line for the home side.

Result 0-4
