WYVERN LEAGUE DIVISION 1 (WEST)
SATURDAY 3RD JANUARY 2015
VERWOOD TOWN RESERVES 8 BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY RESERVES 0

Despite heavy rain during the night and early morning the pitch was in good condition.

The team…. Stroud McGilchrist Harding Hardiman Giles Thomas Kimber Eaton Munday Guthrie Rutten … Bench …. Jones Lusted Read Clayton

B&L were out of the blocks quickly working down the right flank. Harding made a crucial tackle near the corner flag stopping the cross. A line ball found Rutten but Rutten's cross was intercepted on the edge of the box and cleared.

Darren Munday's welcome return to the Club paid dividends with 11 minutes gone when a move strung together from the back released Eaton for a run down the right. Slipping the ball past the full back Eaton's cross was spot on for Munday to slide the ball past the keeper. 1-0.

OAP Ben Giles cleared a high ball and then Short made a great save low to his right as Blackfield and Langley retaliated. B&L pressed again and this time it was left to Hardiman to cut across and make a telling tackle.

Kimber and Thomas gradually got control of the middle of the park sparking more attacks through the middle.

Munday looked comfortable on the ball and forced the keeper into a couple of good saves as pressure mounted. The side netting kicked up and then the bar sported mud marks.

24 minutes and Munday's attacking flair paid off with a good header making it 2-0.

Only a minute had past when Thomas gave Rutten an opportunity to score with a crossfield ball landing just on the edge of the box. Rutten's effort skidded wide.

26 minutes and this time Rutten made no mistake as he connected with a Guthrie pass and made it 3-0.

Guthrie then provided Eaton with a chance but the shot was beaten out and put B&L on the attack. There was no way past Giles and Thomas so the move petered out.

9 minutes left and Rutten cut in from the left hammering a low shot that caught a boot and was deflected but finished up in the back of the net. 4-0.

Half Time 4-0.

We continued where we left off, on the attack. Guthrie Kimber and Rutten combined to release Munday. Munday hit a great shot from just inside the area but agonised as the ball hit the outside of the post and went for dead.

Harding then went on a mazy run having won a tussle in our third. Racing free Harding finished off his run with a shot that went down the keeper's throat.

Eaton, Kimber and Thomas worked the ball across the middle and Rutten went free. A high ball into the box was well gathered by the keeper.

B&L's response was an attack down the left but Hardiman and McGilchrist covered to wipe out the threat.

57 minutes and the inevitable. A frustrated late tackle gave us a free kick from 25 yards out. Rutten stepped up and curled a low shot past the wall into the bottom corner. 5-0.

5 minutes later Manager's Martin Gilham & Steve Course decided on wholesale changes. First off came Tyler Rutten with Matt Lusted picking up his role. Alex Eaton gave way for Fraser Read and Joe Kimber gave up his spot to Matt Jones. Two Oxygen Cylinders went on to assist Ben Giles.

71 minutes and James Guthrie eased past a couple of defenders to slam an unstoppable low drive past the keeper … 6-0.

We were now well on top but all credit to B&L for pushing up to try and reduce their arrears.

We found a bit more space and a good passing move was rounded off by Munday as he connected with a cross into the box making it 7-0.

A surprising lift in the spirits of B&L forced us back on the defence. Hardiman and Harding cleared two efforts high in the box and then Short made a great catch on the near post.

Another chance went begging as a clear run on goal finished with the ball being sliced wide.

Thomas and Read shared possession in the middle of the park as we got back in the game. Reads pass found Guthrie and a run past the full back resulted in a deep cross deflected past the far post.

Giles put a through ball for Munday to follow up. A shot was half cleared. The ball was put back in the mix and Jones slammed the ball past the keeper from 6 inches. 8-0.

Result 8-0.
