Match Report Verwood Town vs BDFA REp Team 31-Jul-13

PRE-SEASON MATCH
WEDNESDAY 31ST JULY 2013
VERWOOD TOWN 5 BDFA REPRESENTATIVE SIDE 0

A challenge Shield was in prominence as the teams lined up. Acknowledging the quality of the Rep side, Adie and Darts selected a strong team to see if we could grab title to the trophy.

A testing five minutes elapsed before the first real break in the game. Hill collected a Homer line ball. A quick switch inside and Gajic raced in to sweep the ball over the bar from 2 yards !!

4 minutes later Lovell headed over. Were we going to be treated to 90 minutes of our usual finishing quality ?

Reps made ground down their left and forced a corner. A flick on header from the near post gave Lynch an opportunity to show his talents. A safe pair of hands made it look easy.

10 minutes Gajic shot wide. 12 minutes Saxby's effort shaved the post. Unbelievable.

Webb and Homer tried to correct the score line with good approach work only to follow the traits.

We got peppered for a few minutes with some good football from the Reps team and Oldring with Kelly's support did well to hold centre stage.

We'd had a good pre season. Reps hadn't. It became noticeable ass the half wore on.

Gajic looked sharp with a penetrating run bringing Haskell into play. Haskell swung a leg and connected. The keeper scrambled the ball away. Gajic followed in and cut the ball back to Homer. A left foot shot brought out a great save from the keeper.

28 minutes Dyers hard tackle in mid field won the ball. Dyer made ground and a chip gave Saxby a run on goal. The keeper came out to narrow the angle but Saxby this time gave him no chance with a low shot into the bottom corner. 1-0.

We gave ground to a fine mid field move but Evans closed down danger and a toe ender cleared the ball up field.

5 minutes left and Gajic started a move through Haskell and Dyer. Gajic went wide, collected a return ball and tried a cross shot. The keeper managed to get a hand to it and the ball landed on the edge of the penalty area. Dyer followed up but his shot went narrowly wide.

Half Time 1-0

Adie brought spec savers in at half time and it worked. 2 minutes into the second half Saxby was the spark in a good build up. Receiving the ball back from Homer Saxby went free to test the keeper. A good punch and Homer followed in to collect on the edge of the area. Taking it wide of the full back, Homer chipped on to the spot and Gajic planted a solid header into the net 2-0.

A minute later it was Hill making inroads on the left. A grubber from 20 yards had the keeper scrambling but the ball clipped the bottom of the post and bounced free.

50 minutes a Homer free kick floated into the box and up went Haskell like a legless gazelle to put the ball past the keeper. 3-0.

A tired Rep side struggled for a while and Evans capitalised racing down the right and sending cross shot past the last defender. The side netting bulged.

56 minutes we maintained pressure. Webb cut in from the left a right foot shot was palmed away but only as far as Saxby. A right foot volley whipped past the keeper making it 4-0.

Reps got a second breath, a good move resulted in a high hopeful shot that Lynch had no trouble with. The second shot a minute later though had goal written all over it but Lynch made a tremendous save flicking the ball wide for a corner. Oldring won the tussle and headed out of the area. Dyer picked up and a classic cross found Saxby. A run and shot was blocked and cleared.

The ball landed at Dyer's feet. A quick switch to Homer and a lob over the advancing keeper cruelly landed on top of the bar.

69 minutes and Haskell made way for Murray. A shuffle of the pack with fresh legs (although the legs were Murray's) and we pushed forward.

Oldring had a shot then Webb rolled the ball for a nutmeg and delivered a rising shot just over the bar. It was a good attacking spell.

Reps mustered reserves of energy and Homer did well to quell an overload on the right.

We pushed on and Gajic's progress into the area was halted abruptly by a stretched leg. Homer delivered the ball on to Kelly's head and suddenly we had to a score line of 5-0.

Result 5-0
