PRE-SEASON MATCH
TUESDAY 23RD JULY 2013
HAMWORTHY REC. 1 VERWOOD TOWN 3

Ist minute had Evans making a good defensive header as Hamworthy created a quick attack on the left. The header fell to Dyer. On to Webb then on to Lovell as we counter attacked. Lovell forced a corner. In it came and it was a Hamworthy head clearing the danger.

The game see sawed and with the game 5 minutes old Lynch had to punch clear a dangerous cross then pounce on a low shot destined for the bottom corner.

It was a good opening from both sides.

7 minutes a defensive clearance converted to attack split us down the right and again it had to be a Lynch ball as it swung dangerously towards the top corner with bodies rushing in.

9 min and it was our turn as Hill fooled his marker, slipped inside and hit a low cross that only needed a touch but we had failed to follow up.

Gajic was allowed space and cutting inside the area chipped the ball to Haskell. A volley went wide.

24 minutes was a heart stopper as the ball released through the middle by Dyer was chased by Lovell. The keeper spotted the run and closed space. Neither player benefitted as the ball squirmed its way past the keeper gently rolling over the line.

It was then Hamworthy's turn. A crisp passing movement took them through our defence and had it not been for an athletic Lynch we would have gone behind.

38 minutes Homer took charge and making ground reached the edge of the Hamworthy box before unleashing a shot that was deflected into the path of Lovell. A snap half volley and the ball whistled past the post.

40 minutes and Hill sped down the left. A cross and Kelly headed on across the box. Oldring had joined the attack and superbly headed past the keeper. 1-0.

43 minutes we almost had a second as Evans went free and an inch perfect pass gave Lovell room for a shot. The keeper made a superb save.

Haskell followed in on a Lovell cross and a right foot volley from the edge of the box had the keeper beaten but not the full back as the ball was hoofed off the line.

Half Time 1-0

Temperature was still high as we lined up for the second half. A bright sun as well, gave cause for the bench and Management to have cold drinks poured.

Dyer picked up a Haskell pass and a shot from 25 yards whipped past the foot of the post. It was encouraging.

A minute later it was a mirror image but this time Dyer struck his usual form and hit a passing Cessna.

While we were still preening ourselves for the first few minutes of attacking football, Hamworthy split us wide open on the right and a deep cross was headed in levelling scores 1-1.

It was a wakeup call. No complacency could be allowed and we got ourselves together again.

Haskell and Lovell worked the ball through the back four and Haskell finished the move with a crisp shot. The keeper dived to palm the ball away. Lovell fired it back and the keeper was there again to make a great double save.

60 minutes and we strung together a decent piece of football. Homer broke up an attack and released Lovell in the middle of the park. Lovell closely shadowed played the ball back to Evans, on to Haskell, on to Hill and then a cut back ball allowed Webb to hit a rising shot over the bar.

Hill smashed an angled shot wide and then Homer joined the attack to bring out a good save from the keeper.

We had pushed too far forward. Hamworthy broke and only Oldring and Kelly were back with Lynch. Hamworthy swept down the left. Kelly went to cut out the danger and a quick switch ball gave space for a shot on goal. Lynch took off and palmed the ball away. Oldring caught the dropping ball on the volley and planted it on top of the Club House.

82 minutes our pressure finally paid off. Gajic - Webb then back to Gajic, a cross found Lovell rising above the defence and a header flew past the keeper to make it 2-1

85 minutes Haskell put the result beyond doubt converting a Saxby cross with a header into the roof of the net 3-1.

Result 3-1
