Match Report Hamworthy United vs Verwood Town 9-Mar-13

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 9TH MARCH 2013
HAMWORTHY UNITED 2 VERWOOD TOWN 2

A good start for both teams with Gajic breaking into the box but disappointed to see his shot on target deflected out of the area.

2 minutes later Hamworthy hit back with a good move down the right. Smith closed down the runner making a strong tackle to stop the cross.

12 minutes, it was our turn but this time the tackle earned Satts a free kick. A good low shot on target whipped through the wall but a diving save stopped the ball crossing the line.

Oldring's header cleared our box and then Smith wellied the ball up field as Hamworthy pressed forward.

Lynch made a couple of comfortable saves and then Evans cut out a threat on the left.

We edged the play and half way through the half Evans Webb and Saxby worked their way through Hamworthy's defence. Saxby finished off the move with a chip over the advancing keeper. The ball was partly cleared by a defender. Gajic controlled the ball and hit it back for goal. Again a block. Saxby gathered the clearance and fired a 20 yarder but overt the bar.

We pegged Hamworthy back in their third and tried without success to grab the lead.

29 miinutes Saxby dipped the ball into the box. Satts laid back for Webb. A hard low shot was arrowed into the six yard box. Haskell shoved out a leg and the ball diverted wide of goal.

A minute later we tried again to put the ball in the net. The move started with Haskell wide left releasing a telling ball to Saxby. Saxby was clear on goal and tried a shot. A bobble meant the keeper diving to produce a good save but not having to deal with any power.

33 minutes and Kelly moved down the left working the ball with Saxby. Saxby crossed and a rare event saw Satts actually head the ball forcing the keeper to give away a corner. The corner dropped on the penalty spot Haskell won the header but planted it over the bar.

44 minutes and pressure paid off as Gajic forced way into the box and was dropped by a fierce tackle. Webb stepped up 1-0.

Half Time 1-0

38 seconds only had gone of the second half when Hamworthy cut through a token defence and made it 1-1.

Hamworthy's half time grilling paid off. They looked sharper and eager for the ball. Energy was pumped into their game and we were closed down quickly when we had the ball.

10 minutes and we had nine players in and around the area. Saxby cut out an attack on the left and a quick ball to Satts caught Hamworthy short at the back. Satts cross was too much for Haskell to get hold off so the attack petered out.

12 minutes and we pushed through the mid field with Dyer and Webb working hard. A ball back to Kelly, a line ball over the full back and there was Saxby to run clear. The keeper tried to close him down but Saxby slammed the ball into the corner of the net to make it 2-1.

Then we committed Hari Kari. Evans collected a long clearance. Made ground and tried to bring Gajic into play. The ball was intercepted and a player ran free. A low cross from our dead ball line and an unmarked runner tapped the ball past Lynch for an easy equaliser. 2-2.

Gajic crossed low into the box with 63 minutes gone, Haskell tussled with defenders. The ball spun up in the air making an easy catch for a good keeper.

It was our turn to defend as Hamworthy strung some good passing together. Lynch made a god save at the foot of the post and then caught a dropping ball just under the bar.

Another move had Lynch punching the ball clear and seconds later made a diving save from a shot angled in from the flank.

We had forfeited our right to the points, Hamworthy had produced extra effort in the second half and deservedly found an equaliser. Although they continued to push forward we looked comfortable at the back.

Up front we were spasmodic. A couple of good efforts but yet again no killer shot.

The game increased in tempo in the last couple of minutes but no further goals created.

Result 2-2
