Match Report Verwood Town vs Bournemouth 13-Oct-2012

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2012
VERWOOD TOWN 2 BOURNEMOUTH 4

Dyer fed the ball in from the right and Haskell nipped round his marker to flick the ball just wide of goal. Had it gone in it would have been a terrific start with only 2 minutes gone.

We continued pressing and Hill sent in a teasing cross that Haskell reached first and agonized as his header was cleared off the line.

5 minutes a brilliant run from Gajic split the midfield and a pin point pass found Evans in space on the right. Evans coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Bournemouth reacted with an attack on the right and a hard low cross was cleared by Delaney. Back it came and this time Kelly intercepted to head clear. Dyer pounced to win the ball and whipped a cross to Satterley. Satts reached the edge of the area and unleashed a good low shot but watched it go wide.

We should have had more goals in the can at this stage but finishing was at a premium.

8 minutes and Hill chased down a high ball. Good control and the ball was laid off for Haskell to hold up. Finding Gajic racing in but then watched again in agony as the ball was fired over the bar.

We almost suffered over confidence as a ball went wide, crossed into the middle and a player went clean away from defenders. Luckily he was flagged offside as the ball finished up in the back of the net. It was a double lesson. Not only how to finish but equally not to show any complacency.

Bournemouth got round the back of our defence with 16 minutes gone and Kelly did a good job to shadow a half shot over the line.

Smith pushed up winning a header and continued on for the return. It didn't come.

We were pushed back and Delaney got in the way of a point blank shot but then we had to rely on a great save by Lynch as Bournemouth piled it on.

33 minutes a delivery from Bournemouth's left was headed in from 6 yards. Lynch made a fantastic diving save to palm away but a predator tapped the rebound in to make it 1-1.

Dyer was having a great game and instrumental in many of our attacks.

44 minutes and Hill raced in to chip the keeper making it at half time…2-1

2 minutes and Bournemouth gave a sign of intent. Hill went for a tackle on the edge of the box but the ball was whistled in quickly and Lynch watched a rising shot clear the bar.

Good football in the centre of the park followed and we committed the cardinal sin of standing off and letting them play.

Lynch flicked a shot over the bar and Kelly headed the corner clear. Back it came and this time Evans was called upon to carry the ball out of the box to safety.

6 minutes another attack forced a hard tackle…Penalty. Lynch could do nothing as the ball rocketed into the top corner. 2-2.

We tried to get back into it with Haskell and Satterley linking up to free Gajic for a shot. Another one whistled wide.

Satts brought Hill into play and Hill's cross was headed wide by Gajic.

Dyer had to funnel back to prevent an attack in the box and then a superb flighted ball found Evans free. Evans made ground and a cross cum shot was palmed away. Haskell shot on the volley but the keeper produced safe hands.

Saxby worked the ball on the right and slipping the ball through to Satts went for the return ball. The shot was tipped over the bar. In came the corner and Haskell's header went wide.

Saxby then made way for Webb in the 68th minute.

76 minutes and sloppy defending let in a runner and we suffered. Chris Lynch had to stoop to get the ball from the back of the net 2-3.

Bournemouth closed ranks and we made several futile efforts to break down a solid defence.

82 minutes and Elysee came on for a shattered Dyer.

We threw everything into the last few minutes. We pushed into the Bournemouth half and won a free kick. All our outfield players plus those off the bench crammed into the area. The ball was headed free and connected with a single forward unmarked who raced away and slotted the ball past an advancing Chris Lynch in the 93rd minute !!!!

Result 2-4.
