Report

Difficult to do a full report as I spent most of the 2nd half at Bournemouth Hospital A & E. However, what I did see and what has been advised to me since by my assistants Nigel Watts and John Driscoll is that we fully deserved the three points.

We gave a debut to our youngest player, Josh Burgess who is our reserve goalkeeper. About 16 years of age it was a major step for him and the lads protected him superbly. We started off in a very positive frame of mind and took the game to Pennington and in truth had 3 gilt edged chances within the first 10 minutes. The game then became more even however after 20 minutes Josh's first touch of the ball was to retrieve it from our net, when a twenty yard shot flew into the top corner.

With the way our season is going this was a pivotal time for us and the players responded with real character and desire. Rather than fold, we again took the game to the opponents and fully deserved our equaliser when a far post header from Marc Harrison just went over the line and to his credit the Pennington linesman helped the referee by indicating a goal. From there we grew even stronger, we were closing them down quickly and when in possession used it wisely and kept good ball retention. Five minutes before half time a challenge mid way in our half saw a nasty knee injury to our skipper Andy Munson and the game was held up for 5 minutes whilst he was stretchered off under the guidance of our physio Kath Ryan.

Andy was replaced by Chris Hudson who slotted into the middle of midfield. When the game resumed we scored almost straight away with an absolute belter from Marc, shooting right footed from just outside their box. Having given the lads the benefit of my wisdom at the interval team talk I then departed to Hospital. I am advised that the 2nd half was much the same with us on top. Josh made four smart saves including an impressive double save and we also had chances. Brian Quilter came on for the last 20 minutes, his first run out for almost a year after injury, so things are looking up.
