Report

Not many changes from the Team of the week before, however the major one was that we went without a Keeper as young Ben Daniels was ill. Andy Munson showed the Team spirit we require by volunteering to go between the sticks although this disrupted the game plan by causing us to shuffle players around positionally. Hamworthy Rec's pitch was in immaculate condition and as the saying goes, if you can't play football on that sort of surface, you can't play anywhere.

Both sides played attacking open football to a high degree of quality which made for an entertaining game. We went a goal down from a corner where a header eight yards out flew into the net. The remainder of the first half was fairly even. Andy made a couple of good saves although slightly unorthodox and we had a couple of half chances but didn't really test their keeper.

The second half we played some really good football but again seemed shooting shy. The game was evenly poised until we conceded from another corner. Five minutes later we went 3 down to a shot from outside the box and this was against the run of play. At this stage we had nothing to lose and went gung-ho, completely changing the formation and for the last twenty minutes we dominated the game. John Homer with a far post header from a Conor Moore cross pulled one back. Ben Kellys shot from the edge of the box was superbly saved by their keeper, Matt Lemar put a shot wide and had another effort blocked and Jack Mills beat his marker and put a shot just wide. A gallant effort but no joy!

A sterling effort in which everyone played well, it was circumstances that beat us in the end.

The match was well refereed by Keith Lashmar and the Hamworthy manager after the final whistle confided in me that the 3-1 scoreline was a margin that was unfair on our team.
